The story that led me to you.

Hi Bitmob Community.

Davneet Minhas’ article “Immersion, Accessibility, and the Evolution of the Video game industry” presents to us a in-depth look into the possible future in gaming.

“The overall trend in the game industry towards immersion and accessibility is fairly evident…all this technology begs the question, is immersion and accessibility good for the industry? Can complex real-time strategy titles such as StarCraft exist with the limited control schemes presented by motion recognition technology? Can the mood and atmosphere created in games like Bioshock exist with real-life hand gestures? Can intense combat and firefights like those in F.E.A.R. be accurately conveyed via motion control? One can only hope that quality in gameplay and design remain at the forefront of the video game industry, instead of accessibility and immersion.”

Yet, wouldn’t developers see excellent gameplay and design as part of ensuring accessibility and immersion is achieved for the player?

Can anyone explain to me the excitement that surrounds Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2?

It’s touted as being possibly the biggest hitter of 2009. Understandably so if no other games are released to compete against it. But why? Is the phenomenon of Modern Warfare 2 driven by rumours and hype? Or is it driven by the success laid down by its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare?

What is it about MW2 that sets it above and beyond other shooters and leaves its competitors hiding behind delays?

Apple has enjoyed a significant renaissance, especially after it's precarious history in the 80's and its suit against IBM (which really should have been made against the fledgling company known as Microsoft) left it on the brink of extinction.

Now it emerges not only as a favourite in certain industries, but has unexpectedly grown into the gaming market.

I've never truly understood open world gaming. Why make a game that resembled all aspects of reality? Yet as I explored the universe in Grand Theft Auto 4, I was left with an impression that extended beyond the technical "wow" factor of the game.

Competitive play seems to be the forefront of gaming today. Gone are the days of “friendly competition”. It’s all about teabagging and trash talking that goes too far “Yo mamma” – my mum is a sweet old lady that makes cupcakes for the girl guides – you leave her out of it!

If the ESRB is so much of a barrier to the development of the gaming industry, why have it at all?

In life, we spend so much time trying to get somewhere

 And absolute power corrupts absolutely.

It seems the burden of success can often drive an individual to do irrational and unimaginable things.
