Bitmob Charity Game Night Tomorrow: Halo for Haiti

Community member Evan Campbell alerted us to a noble initiative by Bungie to provide relief for the earthquake victims in Haiti. On Wednesday and Thursday, Bungie will donate $100 for every thousand people who play Halo while wearing a special red heart emblem, up to $77,000.

We here at Bitmob appreciate Bungie's efforts, so we're scheduling a special Halo 3 Game Night tomorrow at 5 p.m. PST. Come join me (Gamertag: B Bretterson), Shoe (Gamertag: Bitmob Shoe), and other Bitmob staff in fragging for a cause!

Find out how to add the red heart emblem after the break.

To add the heart emblem:

1. Press Start
2. Select Settings --> Appearance
3. Select Emblem
4. Select the "hearts" emblem and "circle" background
5. Back out to the Appearances menu and select Colors
6. Set Emblem Primary to red (or maroon/brick/rose depending on which game you're playing!)
7. Set Emblem Secondary to white

See you tomorrow!

Be sure to check our Twitter and Facebook accounts for updates, and look here to find the online gaming IDs of Bitmob community members and staffers -- add yours if you haven't already done so!

I'm glad Bitmob is helping out.

I'm definitely in.
Ian Lucier , January 19, 2010
I'm sorry but to me this feels like Bungie is using the tragedy in Haiti as a marketing gimmick. If they want to donate money to the relief effort, they should just go ahead and do it, not make it contingent on how many people play their game.

Wonderful! I don't own Halo....

I'm sad.
James DeRosa , January 19, 2010
Hell yeah, I'd love to be in on this. I don't have any of your gametags on my friends list, however. Will it be hard to join, you think?
Allistair Everett , January 19, 2010
I'll be online and hopefully some of the 40 friends (paltry, I know, shut up) I have on Twitter will be joining. Seeing as how this will now be a Game Night I'll be sure to look for you, Brett.

@"Patrick Blank" I fail to see how Bungie can profit from this. Everyone already owns the game, they don't have ads and they already get plenty of people online every day. They're only asking for users to change their emblems. An easy way for gamers with no money to help out.

@Allistair: I can't speak for Dan "Popular Pants" Hsu, but I've got plenty of space on my friends list. Send me a request and you'll be good.

@Patrick: Companies use these sort of charity tactics all the time. They could simply donate the money if they wanted to. But by allowing us all to participate, maybe it will inspire people to give more.
Brett Bates , January 19, 2010
@Patrick if they didn't do things like this I'd feel bad because I really don't have the financial means to donate anything.

Anyone else wanting to get in on this should also add my gamertag, CxBxM. I guess you don't need to, but you can if you want...?
Ian Lucier , January 19, 2010
I'll try to make it, but I'm not sure if I can yet. I'd definitely like to though.

@Ian: Be sure to add your Gamertag info to the comments of this link if you haven't yet.
Brett Bates , January 20, 2010
Wish I had my Xbox with me to join this, but I'll spread the word.
Matt Giguere , January 20, 2010
I have a feeling I'll be throwing grenades a lot by accident, thinking I'm looking down the iron sights....

I'll have to purge some people to make room for others. Sorry if I delete you! (I don't remember whom all the gamertags belong to.) Just re-add if you want to play tonight.
Dan Hsu , January 20, 2010
Yahman i'm the saaaame way. I gotta get myhalo legs back on.
Chris Rose , January 20, 2010
Hope I'm not purged!
