"Well, Metal Gear is a bit different, mainly because you have to follow each game to understand the story completely. When i've played MGS 1 on PSX, i was so clueless about the story, it just felt like an action game of any sort. I got back into it few years ago and i've said to my self "WTH, i've missed such a great story". MGS 2 was a bit confusing, but if you play it 2 or 3 times, it gets coherent and even if you don't have to play ALL games of the franchise to understand MGS 2, it helps a lot to get into it.
"I feel relieved if you had difficulties to follow the story, specially if english is your first language ^^ Xenogears is just like Tactics Ogre (in terms of how tough its to understand the main story) but it shouldn't stop players from enjoying it.
As for CD 2, just like you've said, Square had money issues &/or had to rush it, i don't quite remember the story, but it was something like that : money issues.
Now, my biggest regret was the cancellation of the latest Xenosaga Episodes. We were supposed to get 6 episodes and how sad it was to know that we wouldn't get the 4,5,6 parts :/
Guess i'll cheer myself up with some Xenogears this week-end, if i'm not lacking time, that is. "
"It's been a while since i've finished Xenogears... I'm 24 now and when i did, i was like... 15/16 ? My english was not that good at that time and i do remember my diffuculties of finding my way through, it was hilarious haha. I've barely managed to understand parts of its story and i've mostly played it for the gameplay. Since then, i've just played many RPG and never went back to Xenogears even tho i still own my original copy.
Only thing i can remember a bit is the CD 2. If i do remember well, it was not that good and it almost killed the game for me. Its contents was kinda poor and based on what i've read, SquareSoft had to rush it, this may explain why i didn't like it, but overall, Xenogears is an excellent game and on top of that, an excellent RPG."
"I couldn't agree more with you on this one. I'm not sure if i'll ever be able to play the Sega CD version in the futur, but i'll try my best to get a copy of it.
I'm also working on buying a copy of Eternal Blue Complete Box for many reasons :
1 - For its rarity and quality
2 - Because i want to play it again
3 - Yeah i have to admit, your article just got me into it again ;D
If i get my hands on it, i'll post back with some pictures, i promise !"
"Hi there ! I'm french, but i'll try to write in english as well as i can. This was posted few months ago, but i just felt like i had to answer.
I do have to agree with you, collector's back then were way better than what we're actually getting today, except for both Catherine's LE (EU & US) which were both great and like you both said, Atlus was definetly going into the right direction.
As for the game itself, i have to say that i don't quite remember the game (geez, i have to play it again ^^), but even in terms of RPG's, we were getting better games years ago now (just like Xenogears, Chrono Cross & so on). I'm lucky enough to own the Silver Star Story Box (US), but i'm having a difficult time to find your box (or it's just supra expensive, even on ebay) since the price can reach a good 100-120$ at times (or i'm just unlucky, i don't know).
I've registered to this website just to post this, but i'll probably come back from time to time. Thanks for sharing your opinion with us, it was something warm to read !
(Not sure if pictures are allowed, but here it is)
Both Lunar together :
Now, i'll try to play it as soon as possible, which means, whenever i have free time ^^
Just my 2 cents, but you get the idea ^^"
