I agree.  This genre especially doesn't need a good story to succeed.  As long as it doesn't get in the way of the gameplay, I don't care -- so people who complain about the story or characters being "changed" seem to be reaching for something to complain about.  I admit that it was a shock for Dante to look so different, but it's a minor thing anyway.

Bayonetta was one of my favorite games this generation, but the story and writing were atrocious.  If the sequel changes the character designs and story, but keeps the excellent gameplay, I wouldn’t really care much.

Yes, it sucks when something that you’ve grown used to changes, but that’s life, especially in the world of Video Games.  If you play games like this for the character design, and not the gameplay, then I’m sorry.

The rest of us are looking forward to what seems to be a cool game."

I always enjoyed the original DMC, but found the character of Dante kind of annoying.  The gameplay was amazing, but there was nothing likable or clever about the writing or the character.  I always liked his design (until they removed his shirt).  I just assumed that there was something lost in the translation.

This Dante seems a little better, in my opinion.  This may be due to the fact that it's written in English, and thus doesn't need to be translated.  Some of the dialogue is a little more charismatic and subtle, while some of it is still cringe worthy (especially during the boss in the demo).  He doesn’t look quite as cool, but he’s grown on me (I like that he looks like the old Dante during Devil Trigger).  The voice acting is a little better.

It’s the gameplay that matters, and the demo seems promising – which was surprising.  I expected it to be terrible.  The boss fight was disappointing, considering how legendary the bosses in the previous games were, but what can you expect?  Western designers seem to suck at designing bosses in general.  I thoroughly enjoyed the level, though, and the levels are where you spend most of your time in a video game, so I’ll take it.

I’m hopeful that the game will deliver on the promise of the demo."
