"'You do realize that's the self-destructive behavioral pattern of an addict, right?'

This is getting a bit over the top serious, I'm out.

Thanks for the podcast tip Ed, I was looking for another one to add to the collection now Bitmob has gone monthly. It's pretty good."

My opinion may be sqewed slightly by me being a bit of a trophy whore. I usually have to play through games three times or so to get a platinum, which maybe makes me feel more gratified than someone who has no interest in trophies.

And as for money-grubbing I totally agree in some respects. Ed brought up Online Passes, I think that is just a ridiculous con to extract money that they don't deserve. It just extorts the younger gamer that can't afford to buy games at new.

However I just feel that the more money Microsoft, Sony and all the developers/distributors make the more they're going to be pumping back into the industry. Better consoles, better games and more innovation to feed my hobby.

I don't want them to earn less, I want them to earn more. And right now I don't feel I'm being ripped off.

'So while I'm gald you feel there's some kind of "value," I can't help but percieve those with similar sentiments as causality for our impending doom. Maybe I am just old and codgery, but this industry ran out of Vaseline years ago and we're just NOW noticing (barely)?'

Maybe it's us who see the value in the latest gaming products and will happily spend money on them will keep this industry healthy and alive.

@Ed

I think I must just play a lot slower than you, I don't think I've beat even the shortest game in less that 4.5/5 hours so I might not be the best person to argue that point."

"It definitely does happen in some cases I'm sure, especially with Activision. That's definitely something we need to keep an eye on and vote with our wallet. Although that is a bit rich from me as I've bought all the CoD DLC maps, that's not something I'm proud of.

Also, as much as I love them, Dead Space 2, Arkham Asylum and Resident Evil 5 all smelt of content that would have been included with the main game if DLC wasn't an option.

"Most people making anti-DLC statements seem to feel the need, like yourself, to exaggerate the problem to try and get their point across. There are very few full price games that only take 3 hours to complete, the norm is around 12 hours for a single play-through, double that if you're an achievement hunter.

If I've enjoyed a title I'll happily pay a few extra dollars for 3 hours more entertainment. That's pretty good value in my book. As for content getting cut out of games I don't believe that is true in every case. Take 'Piggsy's Perfect Ten' from Enslaved, I doubt very much that would have been produced for the main game if DLC didn't exist.

As for the price of Xbox Live games, I think you're being very unfair. A lot of indie developers trying to make it in a tough business, $15 isn't too much to ask for what are often amazing games. Play the demo, if you don't like it don't buy it.

In general we get an awful lot of bang for our buck as gamers compared to others form of entertainment, stop complaining."
