Best Worst Useless Peripheral of 2009: Wii Motion Plus

Thought the Balance Board had great potential? Well too bad. How about the Wii Speak? Hah!

I'm beginning to think Nintendo has Alzheimers, putting out peripherals with one solid game to support them and then completely forgetting about them. Well, I've got bad news for you: the motion plus is gone from their minds. Maybe we'll get a Motion Plus enabled fishing mini-game in the next Zelda to help justify our purchase. One can only dream.

Nintendo has two games coming out using it, Rangeliv and Zelda, both "core" games. In both games MotionPlus is part of the main gameplay.

Let alone the third party games like The Grinder, Gladiator AD, Red Steel 2, and such.

Shows how much you know.

Psssh. "Main" gameplay. Keep telling yourself that.

When I heard about the motion plus I thought it was a great idea as long as it wasn't too expensive.

Too bad few developers agreed with me and a lack of support has made it nothing more than another piece of plastic you get when buying Wii Sports Resort.

If future games do use it (as noted above) it better be damn good and worth it.

It's below $20 and gives the Wii near 1-to-1 motion sensing. Wii Sports Resort alone makes it worthwhile, in my opinion. With all of the other motion controllers in development by Sony and Microsoft, you're almost guaranteed that Nintendo will start making more Wii games that utilize the Motion Plus accessory, just so they can stay competitive.

P.S. - We still use the balance board in our household too. Wii Fit Plus added a lot of games that take advantage of it, and it was under $20 as well for people who already owned the board. Also, Shaun White Snowboarding for the Wii was arguably the best version of the game because of the balance board controls.

I never got the Balance Board because it was so obscenely expensive.

I really really really want to buy Wii Sports Resort but the prospect of buying 3 extra motion pluses at $20 a pop just so everyone can play at get togethers and then possibly having no future party games to use them with is a killer. I'm not made of money. I do need to get Wii Fit Plus though.

Alex, most Wii Motion Plus games are bundled with the thing, so you can buy them with each game, not having extra things. No reason to buy multiple ones when you are just going to get a free one with every game.

@William - But the only game I want that uses it is Wii Sports 2. No interest in the other sports games that used it, so if I wanted a Wii Sports 4 person party game I'd have to buy 3 extra. Though I did see a $60 bundle of Resort and 2 MPs once, maybe I should seek that out. Unless I was imagining it.

@Alex Wii Fit and Fit + are the 21st century equivalent of a gym membership, buy it to assuage guilt, use it a couple of times and quietly slide it under the bed (the cats will use it)...
I wish it weren't so but it is... (save your money)

@Jeffrey - You never read my 30 days with EA Active did you? I stick to it once I start. For much longer then most. http://bitmob.com/index.php/mo...-challenge

I'm disappointed with Wii MotionPlus too. I thought it was used well with Wii Sports Resort (although not to its full potential), but I was hoping it'd be used with more games. Now, it's just a useless piece of plastic.
