Bitmob Fails at Uno, Life

Last week, Gameloft held an Uno press tournament for charity -- using real playing cards, no less (they’re publishing the upcoming PSN, WiiWare, and DSiWare versions of the game).

Bitmob failed to represent...miserably. Our team got shut out 200-some points to zero in the first round by IGN, then barely got eliminated in a close second rounder.

Keane Ng of The Escapist won the overall tournament, so Gameloft donated $1000 to his charity of choice, The Boys and Girls Club.

See below for pictures from the event.

Drinks were rimmed with Uno-colored sugar.

AKA, where Bitmob gets to hang out.

The winner celebrates, a spectator flashes gang signs in approval.

I used to go to the Boys and Girls Club as a young little whipper-snapper, and the Club I went to had a room with 20 Commodore 64s! So I am very glad that Keane Ng donated the money to a Club that will hopefully encourage a new generation of kids to computer games!

Shoe, if they ever have an Advance Wars competition, I will expect you to kick some serious ass!

I love Uno! But I don't recognize some of those cards -- I didn't realize new cards came out!

@Lance My Boys & Girls Club just had pool tables and sports facilities. Though I do remember laughing at something so hard there once that I shot root beer from my nose. It helped my rep.

For shame! Gameloft needs to publish some nerd games and sponsor a rematch -- then you guys would stand a fighting chance.

Where did they hold the event? That place looks rather stunning.

@Jason - I did not know that was possible, now I am going to be spending the rest of the night trying to get some cola to come out of my nose!

It is good to know that PS3 version has no slow down when compared to the 360 version...

When is the Apples to Apples Charity-Videogame release thing?

@ Lance It clears the sinuses -- that's for damn sure!

@ Jason - smilies/cheesy.gif I wonder if that's the method they use in emergency rooms

@ Brett: At "B Restaurant" in Moscone Center. Or above it, I guess.

Where did they hold the event? That place looks rather stunning.

Is UNO out for the PS3 yet and if not when does it come out? I would be up for some bitmob uno.

Side note maybe my wife can teach you all how to play uno as she has racked up over 350 wins for the XBLA version.

Side note: I asked for, and received, that cool "losers lounge" sign. Got it up in my game room now. Losers lounge indeed!

@Toby: PSN is soon... September, but maybe earlier.

@Aaron: I wish I thought of that!

@shoe, what charity would you guys have donated the money had you won?
Jazz English , August 12, 2009
...aka, what charity will go without and be left with only their dashed hopes and a crooked smile...?

I originally chose the United Negro Fund just because that'd be a funny charity for me (a Chinese guy) to pick, but everyone kept thinking I was joking and wouldn't take me seriously! I did start it off as a joke, but I was gonna give them the money if I had won....

So I picked Pets Unlimited, a local pet shelter down the street from me. My g/f did, too (that's the blonde in the pix -- she was there for GameGirl.com).
