Bitmob Steam Group Announcement

It's time for a history lesson, kids!

Valve introduced Steam in late 2003 with two aims in mind: content delivery and community cohesion. Six years later, Dan Hsu and Demian Linn soft-launched Bitmob with equally lofty goals. Although the two have no formal connection, both the website and the service are incredibly powerful tools in their own realms. When used together, Bitmob and Steam could create a compelling, community-driven illegitimate child. With that in mind, I'd like to encourage more activity within the Bitmob Steam group. Sorties in Star Trek Online, skirmishes in Modern Warfare 2, and questing in Borderlands will be more satisfying once you're surrounded by the mature, intelligent community members of Bitmob.

Click here to join the quickly expanding ranks of PC-gaming Bitmobbers. If you're already a member, feel free to visit the chat room, invite community members and staffers into games, or simply leave a comment.

Whether you're a lifelong role-playing fan or a casual first-person shooter, I'm certain you'll find other like-minded members. So head over to Steam, launch Modern Warfare 2, and invite Demian Linn to your Team Domination game -- he makes a great human shield!

I can see my gamer picture! It's the one of Link dressed in a Star Trek Voyager-style science uniform!

No one ever recognizes my Steam profile image.

But then again, most people don't read Star Wars Expanded Universe comic books...

I joined, i figure why not? I'm rarely on to play TF2 anymore though. It doesn't seem like the comments and chat on it are particularly bumping either. Is their any place to talk to other bitmobbers in a more dynamic environment? All i ever hear about bitmob members talking to each other in a non comment context is twitter and google wave.

@Jeffrey

Well, since we don't use forums here on the website, there aren't many places where the community can gather and just shoot the breeze. That's why I wanted to encourage others to hop into the Steam group, join the chat, and play together.

You're right in saying that the chat isn't "bumping," but we're trying to change that!
Omar Yusuf , February 12, 2010
Okee, makes sense. I'll try to keep an eye on it and join in.
Jeffrey Sandlin , February 12, 2010
I didn't know we had a steam group! man I feel stupid.
Aaron Betts , February 12, 2010
What's up with this "Player if the Week" stuff? Although "purple promiscuous panda" deserves it for his name alone.
Alex Martin , February 12, 2010
@Alex I normally just promote members with high Steam ratings, awesome names, or those of you who participate during Game Nights.

It doesn't mean much, to be perfectly honest. It's hardly an honor!

man the only thing that makes me wish I had a pc instead of a mac - is this bitmob steam group.
Evan Campbell , February 13, 2010
Woot! My awesome Panda avatar is visible! Fun group of guys to play with. We should have game nights more often!
Steve LeBlanc-Brown , February 13, 2010
I'm in a couple steam groups, including Bitmob's (my avatar is the sexy paul bunyan with his blue ox). However, I never seem to look at the group pages when I'm on steam. Maybe this will change when Bad Company 2 comes out. Anyone else in the beta?
Aaron Guernsey , February 13, 2010
@Steve You guys should organize some on your own, too! The Steam group is perfect for that!
Jason Wilson , February 13, 2010
@Aaron I've been playing the BC2 Beta with quite a few Bitmobbers recently. You should join up -- nothing is more fun than piloting an Apache while three friends occupy the gunner seats!
Omar Yusuf , February 13, 2010
@Omar Sounds like I'll have to do that, but something seems to be amiss with my internet at the moment.
Aaron Guernsey , February 13, 2010
Next PC game I'm picking up is bad company 2. Until then it's 360 only for me while I finish Darksiders.
Chris Arens , February 15, 2010
Haha, awesome! My icon is up there! I'm the fourth from the right in the first row of members!
Jordan Keller , February 15, 2010
I can see myself.
