"I see it happening, because I don't see a 10 year life cycle happening anywhere. Sony said the PS2 would have a 10 year life cycle. The PS3 came out 6 years into the PS2's life. Sure the PS2 had new games for 10 years, but if we are expecting the PS3 to be the only Sony console for a full ten years I see no precident for that. Especially with Epic already showing us what they think the next gen will look like. PS3 will have a 7 year "life cycle" and the PS4 will come out in 2013 along with the next Microsoft console.

Lack of imagination on our part has been demonstrated in the past. Every generation we say "Oh they can't possible top this!""

In the first week MGS4 came out I played through 12 times to get every emblem. Plus I've played every MGS game once a year since"

Yeah games have menus which aren't realistic, and "take you out of the experience" but the sum of the parts (like in Metal Gear or Shadow of the Colossus) can overcome what some might think of as detracting of the experience. Comic Books! Books themselves are not realistic. In comics you have to overcome the lack of motion for crying out loud! Once you do you can be touched just like movies. In exactly the same way? No maybe not, but they are different mediums. Even Television presents a different format than film. You spend far more time with characters and really there is far more "filler" when compared to film, and yet I find Buffy, Lost or Firefly better than 90% of the films out there. Games can do it. You just need to find the right balance of good writing, good characters, immersion, pacing, and gam"
