Bitmob High Score Challenge: George Costanza Frogger Classic (With Canabalt Results)

Well, the competition really took off this week. Everyone got involved for Canabalt. Well, let's keep up the pace with The George Costanza Classic featuring Frogger, shall we?

For those of you who weren't cognitive at the time there was a show on television called Seinfeld and one of the characters was named George Costanza. He was a neurotic fellow who didn't really ever do anything well. That is until he achieved the high score in Frogger (a high score that was only recently beaten in reality) of 860,630.

We originally were going to use the PSN and XBLA versions of the game, but we found a free version that is we consider to be a high-quality clone on Kongregate (thank you, Jasmine Rea).

This Week's Game: Frogger

When: February 21-28 at midnight PST

Where: Kongregate

What You'll Win: Self-respect.

How to Join: Put your Kongregate user name in the comments.

How to talk trash: Add me on twitter -- twitter.com/jeffgrubb -- and use the hash tag #beadickmode. Be-A-Dick-Mode is exactly what we are going for with these competitions; it is the mode that gamers play with the intent of besting another gamer/friend's score.

IMPORTANT
How to Make Sure Your Score Counts:
The past two games have had scores tracked by Kongregate. Frogger does not. When your game is over it asks you to input a name. Please input the prefix "MOB" followed by your Kongregate user name.

Example: MOB Neojobe

Before you head off to go #beadick -- and beat my score -- check out the results for the Canabalt Challenge after the break.

The Top 3 Players in the Canabalt Bitmob High Score Challenge

  1. Derek Lavigne - EternalBeta - 19,982

  2. Cody Winn - NintendoTheory - 16,032
  3. Alex R. Cronk-Young - Magitek85 - 13,090

Congratulations to Derek. It was an intense week of competition that came down to the last day. There were over 15 competitors and the top of the leaderboard was very crowded.

Alex came out early on Saturday and put the heat on Derek by taking the lead from him. Derek responded by hitting a 15k score almost immediately.

When Cody got involved Derek knew he couldn't rest on his laurels. Had he thought that his score was good enough and not kept playing Cody would have overtaken him with his 16,032 score, but Derek did keep playing.

With a score of nearly 20,000 Derek pulled too far ahead and one the competition.

Overall, this was a really great week. A ton of people were involved. The best part is is that the types of games that will appear in these challenges can be vastly different from week to week. If you aren't good at this week's game, well wait until next week -- you could be the champion.

So close! If only Derek had went to bed early, ha ha.

My full username wouldn't fit, so I'm MOB NTHEORY on Frogger.

I'll give Frogger a shot this week. You can find my score under MOBjaylauretta.

Uhh, Jeff. You might want to link to the actual game on this article somewhere. Unless I'm being blind.

I am being blind. Ignore me.

I'm just proud that I bested the Canabalt master of Bitmob, if only for a scant 15 minutes or so. For that short amount of time, I felt like I had finally accomplished something in my life.
