Happy Mother's Day
While Mother's Day may be considered a commercial holiday, most of us here are consumers. I wanted to just take a moment to show my appreciation for all mothers, especially my wife and mom.
The reason I feel this appreciation is relevant on Bitmob is quite simple: without a mother's guidance and support (sometimes economically), our hobby and enthusiasm towards the medium may have never come to fruition.
My mother bought me my first NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Gameboy, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, and Gameboy Advance.
She told me about how she was escorted out by police when she bought a Nintendo 64 from Toy's-R-Us during the holiday shopping season the year it came out. While my mom may have been reluctant to fit the monthly bill for Sega Channel, I will never forget the look of pride are her face when she saw her kids playing Bomberman for hours in the living room--getting along, completely. I think it was in that moment she knew the investment she was making was worth it. She recognized the medium as away of siblings bonding in a somewhat constructive manner. Being a parent myself, I can appreciate that video games do allow for some quiet time around my house.
As for my wife, bless her. I took over her two kids when we married and I kind of ignored the fact she was opposed to video games. She had a Gamecube for the kids and limited their play, understandably. But, with someone around as enthusiastic about it as me--that could not last. We now have several systems, "More systems than we do televisions," she recently told me. She not only has come around, I believe she supports the creative outlet videogames provide in the same fashion my own mother did.
I am curious to know what your guys stories are about mothers and video games, especially if you are a mother yourself.
