My PS3 is Broken (Again) Please Help!

For the second time my PS3 is broken. Nothing happens when discs are put into the system,  to make it worse this is the exact same problem that I had last spring. I thought it was resolved when Sony’s repair center returned it, naturally with a $159.06 repair bill.

Of course by now both of my warranties are expired (I still have the original paperwork, for whatever it’s worth) and I really can’t see Sony being all that sympathetic

Is there any way that this problem could simply be resolved through the settings? I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t really know much about the hardware. Does anyone here on Bitmob have any suggestions? This is shaping up to be the worst day off from work ever.

Ouch. Sony's repair center kinda sucks in my experience. When was it last repaired?
@ Travis It was repaired last June, I just talked to a service rep and they don't care that I clearly have a defective system. All that matters is the expired 90 day extended warranty. I really don't feel like it's worth it to pay for repairs again if they're just going to do the same thing they did last time.
If your warranties are expired, and you think it is a faulty blu ray drive, one can try replacing it. Also, try selling it damaged and pass the cost off to the buyer knowlingly he or she has to repair it.
When I have problems with warranty issues or returns I use the consumerist to launch an EECB (Executive E-mail Carpet Bomb). Basically, you e-mail every corporate contact available on the 'net a thorough and polite list of your grievances and why you're an excellent customer (you've bought a PS3 and several games, won't be able to buy more without a working system). There are several resources to get this done, but here are a couple of links: http://consumerist.com/2007/05/how-to-launch-an-executive-email-carpet-bomb.html http://consumerist.com/2009/10/eecb-succeeds-where-stupid-sony-techs-fail.html Please post the result here on bitmob!
It doesn't pay to repair it again, buy a new one (there are some good deals out there) at a place like Wal-Mart or BB and get their extended warranty. I got total of 3 yrs. coverage at WalMart for an xbox arcade for $27 (well worth it). Use the old PS3 for downloaded video/games or sell it with disclosure or whatever. JP
That sucks that it happened again. My PS3 broke the first day I got it, so I was lucky it was still under warranty. Never had a problem since.
