You grasp the controls to your fighter jet, palms already sweaty from anxiety. After a few moments of calm, your panels and gauges light up, and your target appears in view. You engage the afterburners to close the distance, while arming your infared missles. You grab a lock on and prepare to fire, only to hear your missle lock on alarm go off. He's targeted you first. Frantically dipping the nose of the jet, you pull off a loop to loop, engaging your flares to throw off the missles scent. It barely works as the deadly warhead zooms past your cockpit. Taking advantage of the misfire, you corkscrew your jet and turn around to regain your target. After confirming the lock, you let loose your payload, and destroy the bogey. This is F.A.S.T F.A.S.T(Fleet Air Superiority Training) is the newest game from developer SGN in which you control any of 10 advanced fighter jets, ranging from the FA-40 to the stealthy FA-171. You'll take these instruments of death into 30 missions that will have you either dogfighting with other planes to destorying aircraft carriers. The planes are controlled by using the iPhone's accelerometer. You tilt the phone forward to dive, pull back to make the plane climb, and tilt left and right to turn. The borders of the screen are used for the rest of your planes functions, like the yaw, afterburner and missles. It takes some getting used too, as the planes seem to turn to much when you tilt the phone, but after a few missions you'll be blowing the enemy out of the extremely well modeled environment. The graphics in the game are some of the best on the iPhone. The planes all look like their real life counterparts, missles fly through the air leaving a smoke trail behind them and the explosions and effects are amazing. The ground levels are just flat textures stretched across the surface that aren't very impressive, but the levels over the ocean are beautiful. The water sparkles in the sun and splashes up when your unfortunate opponets come crashing down. The game also sports 1v1 or 2v2 multiplayer dogfights over WiFi only. If you can't access a hotspot or have a home network, the game wont allow you to play. I guess its to keep lag to a minimum, but I have issues connecting even on my network at home. I would have the game freeze up or flat out kick me back to my phone home screen. The times I did get into a match, the game was lag free. It has a basic ranking system, so the more you win, the higher your rank becomes. If they can add some sort of voice chat so you can communicate with your teammate, I can see myself coming back to the multiplayer quite a bit. F.A.S.T is a great fighter jet game. It feels very much like Air Combat, later Ace Combat, did on the PS1 and looks even better. If you were looking for Ace Combat for your iPhone, F.A.S.T is your game.
