Best Use of Celebrity Voices of 2009: Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Arkham Asylum edges out Brütal Legend for one simple reason: nostalgia. A celebrity voice cast can in fact ruin the experience rather than enhance it if not done correctly (illiciting only images of the actors recording their lines rather than immersing the player in the character), but Arkham manages to steer clear of this simply by having most of the voice-actors from Batman: the Animated Series reprise their roles. For people who haven't seen the show, it's possible that the voices will sound odd ("Why doesn't Batman's voice sound like he's a heavy-set smoker?"), but for fans of the show, they'll immediately draw the player in, which is important for a game that's trying to take players into the world of Batman.

Runners-Up: Brütal Legend, Deadly Creatures

I disagree entirely.

I've never watched the animated series, never read a comic book, and watched Dark Knight fully in the knowledge that other people have played the roles of Batman/Joker.

I still thought Hamill's performance was absolutely captivating, and fantastically played. It reminded me of Kenneth Brannagh's portrayal of Iago in the 90's screen adaptation of Othello - absolutely, horrifically evil and a spellbinding performance.

As a very dedicated fan of Paul Dini and the DC Animated Series, I can only sigh at the missed voice acting opportunities in Mortal Kombat versus DC.
