Bitmob Game Night Reminder: Team Fortress 2 Tonight

Just a friendly reminder: A bunch of Bitmob staffers and community members will be hopping online in a bit to play some Team Fortress 2 (PC).

A quick email poll shows that 99% of the Bitmob staff will be a little late, but we'll be trickling in throughout tonight's session.

The official details:

Tonight: 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST start (via Steam)

Add your online ID here, or join the Bitmob Steam group.

That's about it. Look for Jay Henningsen, Rich McGrath, Ryan Rubis, James DeRosa, Mike Minotti, and hopefully a few more of us from the staff side. Here is the original post if you want to check the comments to see who else is coming.

Will there be an event when it starts? My brains getting sleepy and I need reminding.

Davneet, can we take you up on that server offer? Can you coordinate with Mike?

I can't make it, unfortunately...TF2 keeps crashing on me about 15 seconds into a game. Working on it, but I don't think it'll be fixed in time.

An event? Like...an earthquake or a bright light from the sky? No, sorry...nothing like that. But otherwise, I think you'll just want to look for those guys in the Bitmob Steam group and join them.

I've never done it before, though...maybe some more experienced Steam/PC gamers can advise?
Dan Hsu , January 08, 2010
Ah Mr. Hsu, neither sarcasm nor ignorance impresses me. I take no pleasure in you applying one or the other to me. I meant a Steam Event (sends everyone in the StreamGroup a message when the games starting) and it seems someone has heeded my advice. Hope my ping holds up.
Joe Entwistle , January 08, 2010
Yep, the event's on the Steam group schedule now.
Demian Linn , January 08, 2010
Any info on a server?
Chad Tobin , January 08, 2010
Yeah we need to decide on a server... unless we are all content being randomly dispersed amongst the TF2 ether. You don't "create" games/sessions in TF2.
AJ Hurst , January 08, 2010
Just so everyone knows, I'm Tolkoto on Steam. I'll be on the winning team, so look for me that way
Mike Minotti , January 08, 2010
Guys, join this server: 69.39.236.45:27015
Mike Minotti , January 08, 2010
Make that 69.90.119.181:27015 !!
Mike Minotti , January 08, 2010
I just played...its kinda nice. And one sided, but nice. Gonna go and finish stinking up the joint in Brutal Legend...hopefully you guys will be on when I'm done.
Isaiah Taylor , January 08, 2010
Wow why did you all vote for this ctf_orient_b3 map? Download is so slooooooow
AJ Hurst , January 08, 2010
After a few games, I realized that I just wasn't having fun at all. Maybe if the games weren't so obviously imbalanced, it would have been better.
Jon Cole , January 08, 2010
Sorry... the random server I chose didn't have a !scramble command to rebalance the teams like most servers.
AJ Hurst , January 08, 2010
@Demian - Sorry, I didn't see your message here until after I left the server. Regardless, it was fun, if a little one-sided like everyone is saying.

You can definitely take me up on the server offer the next time we play TF2!
Davneet Minhas , January 08, 2010
Unbalance-ness aside, I still had a lot of fun. Thanks to all who came!
Mike Minotti , January 09, 2010
Man, I need to actually go to some of these game nights, I feel like I miss out on stuff, but until my 360 is fixed and my PC is transformed into awesomeness, I can only play PS3 games.
Kevin Zhang-xing , January 09, 2010
I was in there at the beginning after a couple of false starts. I logged off to fix my mic and have a cigarette only never to be able to get in again. Oh well, maybe net time.
Joe Entwistle , January 09, 2010
Lots of talk about unbalanced teams...

Who kicked more ass: staff or users?
Spencer Gregory , January 09, 2010
Spencer - The teams were mixed. I personally got about 6 kills and died about 30 times. Davneet, in particular, dominated me at least once. It wasn't a good ratio for me, but it was still fun playing with a bunch of names I recognized.
Jay Henningsen , January 09, 2010
I was flareon if anyone was wondering. I was playing till it got to the custom map. Feel free to add me on steam.
Chad Tobin , January 09, 2010
I took screenshots of the scoreboards for the later maps (Goldrush and Dustbowl):

Goldrush - http://farm5.static.flickr.com...2edd_b.jpg

Dustbowl - http://farm5.static.flickr.com...1718_b.jpg

You can see how unbalanced the teams were, though it seemed to work out in my favor for the most part.

In the future, a private server, regardless of the game, will definitely help in maintaining balanced teams and a good map rotation. Again, sorry for not taking care of that last night.
Davneet Minhas , January 09, 2010
I was soooo depressed after Dustbowl. I switched classes like, five times, to no avail. Couldn't stay alive for more than 30 seconds. Just too much sucking going on, for a good hour and a half.

Long as the next server has balancing, I'll be fine.
