A glimpse at Scholastic's attempt to novelize video games

I'm a little too young to remember Scholastic's video game novelizations appearing in book order pamphlets, but I have seen the amazing Worlds of Power books in the wild. The Retroist recently ran a story on the Castlevania II novelization:

I picked this book up in a secondhand shop when I was 11. It's very simplistic and emphasizes a more non-violent story compared to the completely nonsensical plot to Castlevania II.

Author Seth Godin created the series to entice boys to start reading for pleasure rather than just playing video games. That's an interesting idea, but why would anyone read the book when their NES is calling?

I remember those. The one for Blaster Master actually made me care about the game...
