It saddens me, as a gamer and as a Hispanic, that Microsift would not only relegate Hispanic culture to the Cheech and Chong films, but they didn't even put the Hispanic member of the stoner duo in the picture. As mentioned in the Kotaku article, Tommy Chong is not Hispanic, he is of Chinese, Scottish-Irish and French descent.

Now, I've never been one to take too much offense to jokes about my culture or ethnicity, but placing Cheech and Chong at the center of their "Hispanic Culture" film section is in poor taste. These films, while some may argue are merely inocuous stoner comedies, are in no way representative of the rich and vibrant Hispanic culture I was raised in. If Microsoft wanted to cash in on Hispanic culture, they could have looked at the films of Hispanic actors and directors that conveyed a positive image of the culture and not a series that presents Hispanics as lazy, trouble making pot heads. It's not as though they would have been hard pressed to find films that portray Hispanics in a positive light. Stand and Deliver immediately comes to mind. The Motorcycle Diaries, My Family (Mi Familia), Like Water for Chocolate, La Bamba, etc... etc....

Edward James Olmos plays a Hispanic calculus teacher in Stand and Deliver, A film based on a true story

I guess all I'm trying to say is that they didn't even try. This is the kind of thing that makes me glad I never purchased an Xbox. Come on, Microsoft. You can afford to hire people to make sure things like this don't happen. What movies are they going to feature for Black History Month? Oh, I don't know, Big Momma's House maybe? Don't be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood

Again - I would just like to emphasize that I am not calling blatant racism here. It may have just been a mistake or an oversight. I just felt it deserved some attention.

Quite the flub. It reminds me of when Nintendo promoted games with dragons in them in honor of Chinese New Years. Token recognition is lame and in some cases such as this, quite incensitive.

Yeah, I remember that one. The video game consoles really need better layout editors, because some of their themed catalogs reek of misrepresentation and poor cultural stereotypes.

I quite agree.

Though gaming has turned into a global market, one must be cognizant of its customers. What a shame.

Oh God. I know I shouldn't laugh at such an awful misrepresentation, but man. Lol.

I'm glad that I wasn't paying close attention to the boxes in the marketplace. The Xbox dashboard has all sorts of junk that is badly edited or completely useless. Even the new pin system doesn't help players who have to fish through all the lame apps just to find what they really want.
