News Blips:
BioWare announces the pre-order bonuses for Mass Effect 3. Anyone who pre-orders this upcoming sci-fi action-RPG will get access to the M55 Argus Assault Rifle. Confirming your copy of the game with GameStop will get you an N7 Valkyrie Assault Rifle and the N7 Defender Armor. PC gamers who pre-order on Origin will get the AT-12 Raider Shotgun. I played and beat both Mass Effects and can’t wait for the third, but I don’t understand any of what I just told you. It’s all just “N70ish face-shooting assault buzzsaw” to me. Let’s have the press release break it down:
- M55 Argus Assault Rifle -- Deadly at any range. It boasts quick burst-fire to ensure ammo conservation and maximum accuracy on the battlefield.
- N7 Valkyrie Assault Rifle -- Deliver two rounds per shot with deadly accuracy and stop the opposition dead in their tracks with superior high caliber rounds.
- N7 Defender Armor -- Improved shields and health, players can survive even the most punishing of battles and withstand enemy fire. The N7 Defender Armor also offers increased ammo capacity and amplified weapon damage.
- AT-12 Raider Shotgun -- Fires a large pellet spread, ensuring maximum coverage for close-range targets. Designed for superior rapid fire, the AT-12 allows for optimal recovery time between shots.
Epic Mickey 2 is in development, and Disney plans to release it on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii. Epic Mickey was an anticipated exclusive for Nintendo’s waggle box, but due to a frustrating camera, it was a bit of a disappointment. Hopefully, the cries of “just fix the camera” were heard. Besides going multiplatform, Disney said that a two-player co-op mode would allow players to control both Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Rabbit on opposite sides of a split-screen. Mickey will still have his magical paint brush, and Oswald will have the ability to helicopter with his long ears and either fight or friend enemies with electric powers. I don’t know how you use electricity to gain friends, but I suppose people would choose being besties over being zapped with 40,000 volts. [MTV Multiplayer]
The Old Republic players are exploiting a bug that makes characters invincible while dancing. Sith Master Rajin Bonor has trained his entire life to take down a Jedi. He is an excellent swordsman, a powerful Force-wielder, and...lord of the dance! That last bit is the most important in Star Wars: The Old Republic, since getting down and/or funky will render the player character impervious to attacks. That breaks the game and makes what should be difficult enemies a cake walk -- or a pie dance, I don’t know. BioWare knows of the glitch and will probably fix it sooner rather than later, but until then, Lord of the Dance Bonor plans to boogie his way to level 30.
The developer, however, probably won't let him. BioWare has implemented this fun new rule: “Dancing is currently not permitted outside of special Dance Zones.” I’m guessing that freeing your ass outside of these areas could earn a stern talking to from John Lithgow who will teach the dangerous moral implications of The Mash Potato and The Alligator. Only one man can save us from these tyrants now. Help us, Kevin Bacon. You’re our only hope! [Sirlin]
Zen Pinball 3D will make it into the North American 3DS eShop next week. On January 12, 3DS owners in the States and surrounding territories will be able to get their hands on this popular title. The download will cost $6.99 and comes with four tables. Like the smartphone version, players will be able to add new DLC tables for a price. It will be interesting to see this how post-game content gets priced on a Nintendo system. It will say a lot about where the company’s head is regarding the Apple and Andoird app markets.
