Mortal Kombat
While Mortal Kombat has always been a favorite among casual fans, when it comes to competitive play the series is better known for glitches and broken mechanics. Developer Netherrealm Studios realized that it couldn’t ignore fine-tuning the games any longer and has made an effort to patch the game after release to improve the character balance. As a result, this franchise rebirth is the first competition-worthy fighter in the series since Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
While many Street Fighter players also compete in MK, this game has a very different feel from Capcom’s titles. Projectiles pass through each other, a dedicated block button changes the dynamic of defense, and the combat encourages close-range mix-ups and launch combos. Don’t be surprised if you see few people go for Fatalities at the end of a match: They want to get back to the bloodbath in the ring as soon as possible.
