"I was just thinking of Dark Souls' difficulty recently, but not in connection to La-Mulana  (which I've never heard of). I was comparing it to XCOM. I'm currently playing XCOM in Ironman mode, normal difficulty, and find the single save file just as stressful as I did in Dark Souls. But unlike Dark Souls, XCOM doesn't feel as soul crushing. Even with a team full of rookies, little funds, and several countries gone, I still feel a shred of hope. I lost all hope in ever defeating Dark Souls a long time ago."

"Good read, Evan! It makes me want to read Fahrenheit 451 again. Right after I reread The October Country."

"The giant baby boss in Catherine has induced a few nightmares in gamers, I bet."

"Good read!

I waited in line at PAX East to try this out and felt a little underwhelmed. Maybe I should give it a second chance and download the Xbox 360 demo?"

"I'm curious to know the answer to this one as well. Since, you know, I'm currently a VentureBeat freelancer. ;)"

"I totally agree with this article. Dark Souls isn't really what you'd call a *fun* game. It's tense, stressful and, yet, oddly addicting. With very little story to speak of, the only joys you can really find in it are from exploring the game world and finally overcoming that area/boss you spent the last 1-3 hours figuring out. Most of the time, though, the game is a tyrant, a bully that will steal your lunch money and stuff you in a locker with your underwear over your head.

I stopped playing Dark Souls the moment Arkham City came out, but now that I'm pretty much finished with it, I'll probably give Dark Souls another shot despite its frustration. At least, until Skyrim...."

"I loved the pacing, the minimalism and the "show, don't tell" approach Valve used in Portal, and I hope they bring those same storytelling elements into Portal 2. I can't wait to play it and need to find a buddy to do co-op with!"

"Ha... good point!

I'm actually totally ambivalent about the possibility of a movie for a video game that hasn't been released yet. Let's see how good the game is first before talking film rights!"

"I find it pretty interesting that out of the four examples you use of female characters that are more than just T&A - Chun-Li from Street Fighter 2, Portal's Chell, Faith in Mirror's Edge, and Samus Aran of Metroid - two of them are silent protagonists. What does that say about the state of female characters in video games?"

"I couldn't agree more with this article. I'm already burned out on CoD. Putting it on a yearly release schedule will just make everyone else tired of it as well."

"Very nice article, Dennis!

While the original PA comic strip didn't really offend me, I find the actions of some of the people involved since then to be a bit nauseating. The people who have been harrassing Kirbybits are just proving another one of PA's comics correct - the Internet F#&%wad Theory.

The whole deal with the t-shirts is incredibly trollish and insensitive as well, but I actually don't mind if people show up to PAX East wearing them. I say take it as a sign...of who to avoid contact with."
