21 Random Qs: Getting to Know...Robert Bowling (Modern Warfare 2)

11. Which locale in Modern Warfare 2 would you least like to visit?

RB: Cliffhanger. Something about scaling a mountain in the blinding snow doesn’t sound appealing to me in real life. Rio is more my style.

12. Website you visit every day?

RB: Twitter.com (@fourzerotwo)

13. Developer or studio you really admire?

RB: Criterion Games (Burnout series). I love their games, design philosophy, and especially the amount of support they did with Burnout Paradise on such a massive scale. I’m always impressed with the Criterion team.

14. Favorite Modern Warfare 2 map (Stimulus Pack included)?

RB: Crash -- it was one of my favorite Call of Duty 4 maps, and with it being added to Modern Warfare 2, it instantly became my favorite MW2 map. Something about the balance of that map is perfection to me.

15. If you were in a real-life Spec Ops mission, who would be your partner?

RB: Batman. World’s greatest detective and proven loyal partner.

What? Batman isn’t real? Irrelevant -- or at the very least, debatable.

16. Favorite sports team?

RB: The Northern Kentucky Adult (18-35) Dodgeball Team. Because we were awesome in our prime!

17. Favorite comic-book superhero?

RB: Batman – haven’t we been over this? World’s. Greatest. Detective. Not to mention he has some of the all-time best archenemies in comics.

18. Tell us one interesting fact about yourself.

RB: I’ve worked, in one capacity or another, in every entertainment field possible. My favorite was being editor-in-chief of an independent music magazine. Simply because we funded and created the entire project ourselves (two-man team) without any previous knowledge of the industry. Issue #1 was a (critically speaking) disaster but a beautiful disaster I’ll never forget.

19. What pieces of media did you and your team have to soak up to get Modern Warfare 2's vibe down?

RB: The team at Infinity Ward is made up of media junkies and really soak in every type of media. Most importantly, they’re playing games, watching movies, reading novels from every genre. The diversity in our reference folder is some of the widest I’ve ever seen.

20. Who wins in a bar fight? Sergeant Gary “Roach” Sanderson, Captain John “Soap” MacTavish, or Captain John Price?

RB: Hands down, Captain Price. He’s literally taught the rest everything they know.

21. Are you a part of the Mile High Club?

RB: The first ever, actually. It was my goal to be the first person in the world to have a full 1,000 points on Call of Duty 4 on the final version of the game, which included getting The Mile High Club Achievement. Proudest Achievement of my life.

Neat.

NOFX kicks ass, but Star Wars as a war movie? :D I can see how one could argue that it can be considered one, for it does include a war, but isn't that like calling Willow or Narnia a war flic? Great interview!

Willow and Narnia were both great, classic war flicks! ;)

I am always surprised at how well Robert answers questions (even though he didn't completely read #15). He is very likeable and pretty funny sometimes. I hope he isn't negatively affected by the IW changes.

Nick, I'm not sure why you said he didn't read #15? Sounded like he answered the question just fine....

I find his favourite Non-HC load out interesting. I wonder if there's something he knows about what's going on under the hood why he would put a Holographic sight on the Scar in lieu of extended mags or suppressor. The iron sights on the Scar are pretty awesome even at long range.

That Mile High Club achievement took me FOREVER. Batman is for sure one of the greatest. He didn't have any super powers, he had brains and martial arts or whatever.

Glad to see 21 Random Qs back!

I found his loadouts answer pretty interesting. I bet a lot of hardcore MW players would take umbrage with them! Personally, I like silence, too.

@Shoe lol. My bad... I would have picked Rainbow Bright or the Tooth Fairy but both tend to stand out in a crowd with the exception of raves. Maybe Marry Poppins if I was in Europe.

This makes me want a bitmob MW2 night. I just got the new map pack and I really like it.

@John As you probably know, the Scar is more powerful with a higher bpm and lower recoil than most other assault rifles.  The holo sight has more range on the auto-aim and the surpressor reduces the damage it does.

Dear Historians -

Allow me to formally apologize for my bad and apparently non-obvious "history joke" in question number four. I'm aware Andrew Jackson is NOT "Stonewall" Jackson. You can cease with the letters.

Love,

Robert Bowling

;)

Ha! Don't feel too bad. I made a joke about the 2000 election in a post the other day. It was verrryyy lame.

That Mile High Club Achievement is the bane of my existence. I gave up after a while. I suck. :(  It's the only Achievement in MW1 that I don't have.

We did do a Bitmob Game Night with the Stimulus Pack specifically. Didn't get a high turnout, probably because we required the DLC to participate, but it was still fun times!
