Bitmob Featured Community Writer: Suriel Vazquez

The Bitmob Featured Community Writer is a new series where we focus on you, the Bitmob community member. We'll dust off your old articles and give you your just reward: more eyeballs on your writing. We're featuring some of your favorites, some you may have overlooked, and maybe even you!

Today's featured writer is one of the community's most active members. He participates in all of our callouts, he is consistently submitting new articles, and he's undertaken one of Bitmob's largest community-based projects to date.

Does all this effort help you become a featured community writer?

Yes. Yes it does.

Suriel Vazquez (pictured, on the left) has earned the honor this week. Even if you are a casual Bitmob reader, you've come across his articles. He is one of our most dedicated members, and his articles are always interesting. Suriel offers a bit of insight into his involvement with the community: "I write because I like to hear the opinions of what I can now call my peers in games writing, because their take on an issue is more important to me than most of the people who work at major press sites."

As for the huge project he's currently working on, he's collecting the community's 50 most favorite articles, and compiling them in a print-quality digital publication tentatively called Bitmob: Year One.

"I got the inspiration for Year One from the Gamespite quarterly compilation, which collects articles written for the site in volumes," Suriel explains. "I thought Bitmob deserved something like that, if for no other reason than the wealth of writers that work almost around the clock to provide the unique, insightful, and personal pieces that make the site such a great place to visit and be a part of."

Let's take a look at some of his work....

No Meet the Mob post from Suriel yet, but it's coming! In the meantime, you can check out Episode 4 of The Vault, where he joins James DeRosa, Jasmine Rea, and Evan Killham for two hours of nerd discussion.

Front-page posts

The Fan Tax -- Suriel takes on special editions of video games, and argues that they are exploitative marketing ploys foisted upon careless consumers. He's right!

Following the Rules: The Thrill of Intricate Design -- Games have two components: what happens on the screen and what happens under the hood. Suriel argues that proper enjoyment of the medium requires an understanding of both.

My Missing Fear -- Forget about monster closets. Suriel's biggest fear is losing hours of his life to an imperfect medium's glitches and technological hiccups.

From the Mobfeed

Audio Story: His Room -- In this fictional story, a boy struggles with the inability of his elders to accept games. What makes this really cool is an audio version, recited by Suriel himself.

Flower, Sun, and Rain - What is a Game with Both Pleasure and Pain? -- Can game creators make bad design choices on purpose? Suriel investigates in this review of Flower, Sun, and Rain.

Avoiding the 7-9 Scale: An Exercise in Different Review Scales -- In an effort to choose a review system that fits his needs, Suriel investigates the multitude of scoring systems employed by game reviewers, and what particular scores within these systems actually mean.

Suriel has been one of my favorite writers on Bitmob forever!!! He always has the most well-researched posts!!! You can also catch him on episode 4 of the Vault podcast!!!

I'm a big fan of 'My Missing Fear'. I had a lot of the same anxieties w/ the Gameshark for the PSone when I was a kid.

This is a really cool feature and Suriel totally deserves the recognition.

Yeah, Suriel really deserves this post. He has been almost a daily part of my Bitmob reading regimen. I am so glad these deserving people are getting this attention.

Suriel is the greatest. THREE CHEERS FOR SURIEL! HIP HIP!

Another worthy candidate. Congrats Suriel!

Oh, also none of the article links aren't working.
