News Blips: Assassin Rumors, EA's $10 Project, Elder Scrolls at E3, and More

A darkly shrouded man clutching a freshly used dagger doesn't automatically make him an assassin, right? Oh, who am I kidding....

News Blips:

Ubisoft has released a mysterious image that hints heavily of a new Assassin's Creed project. While the stark simplicity of the picture (a drawing from Polish artist Grzegorz "Gabz" Domaradzki) suggests a multitude of game possibilities, the logo, eagle, and elements of the enigmatic man's attire deliver an omen-like message of seeing an Egyptian-themed entry in the wildly popular action-adventure franchise. If not, that's got to be the most badass pyramid tour guide I have ever seen. [UbiWorkshop]

EA's Keith Ramsdale is positive that the company's ambiguous $10 downloadable-content strategy is for the best. Speaking with MCV, the general manager for EA's U.K. division appropriated the system -- which encourages the purchase of new games by bestowing DLC bonuses via a single-use code and charging $10 for the same content thereafter -- as the ultimate retail affair, saying that "it’s all about the customer, about improving their experience. It’s not a defensive measure against preowned or piracy." Honestly, Keith, you should rein in the hypocrisy until E3. Speaking of which....

Criminal scum of Tamriel, beware -- Bethesda will reveal a "secret" at E3 that could be the next Elder Scrolls. While remaining mum about specific details, the studio behind 2006's Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion will be among a slew of companies that are unveiling under-wraps games at the Los Angeles mega event. Seeing as a suitable length of time has passed since Oblivion's release, the potential for a fifth title in the series is quite high. [Abstract360]

Call up your posse and reload that six-shooter -- Red Dead Redemption should get its first mission pack on June 22. Dubbed "Outlaws to the End," the content features six co-op missions along with a plethora of new multiplayer challenges, Achievements/Trophies, and experience point rewards. Up to four players can engage in the lasso-swingin', bandit-shootin' action when the free-to-download pack appears on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network later this month.

I am so ready for another Elder Scrolls. I will not be buying any other new games for about 4 to 6 months after it comes out so that I can take the time and do it right this time! I really hope it is not an MMO though. I will still play an MMO, and if it truly is Oblivion just with real people I can see some potential, but I am not at all looking for a World of Warcraft clone.

I think the best way to do a console MMO is to just put a $60 game expansion out every year and not charge a huge subscription fee.

I doubt we will ever see that though.

It is a popular theme to criticize corporations like EA for testing the market with ways to make a profit. The real hypocrisy is in those that criticize them since they would do the exact same thing. When you accuse a corporation, you accuse yourself. To accuse a rich man for being rich is to be envious of him. Instead of accusing people who succeed, be happy for them. Then you might succeed, too.
