News Blips: EA buys PopCapIf you go to ModernWarfare3.com it redirects to Battlefield 3’s official site. Oh snap!

News Blips:

EA plunks down the cash and buys Peggle developer PopCap. The deal -- which may end up being worth up to $1.3 billion -- puts EA in control of Plants vs. Zombies, Bejeweled, Zuma, and more. PopCap has the kind of casual-game sway that EA has been struggling to build up (or buy up) for the past few years. The company also has a strong presence on iOS and other mobile platforms, which will help EA earn some of that sweet Apple cash. I just can’t wait to sign up for my Origin account to get Plants vs. John Madden!

Ken Levine says that Irrational Games currently has no plans to develop for Wii U. "Just to be clear, there are no plans," Levine said to IGN about his team and the Wii U. "I'm not saying it can't happen, but we have no plans to do any games for that platform." This new declaration may seem confusing after his appearance in a Wii U promo video at Nintendo's E3 press conference, but Irrational is still in the thick of developing BioShock: Infinite and probably hasn’t taken a breath to consider what comes next.

Infinity Ward is giving a team of glitchers one week to find as many exploits as they can in Modern Warfare 3. Modern Warfare 2 suffered from long stretches of hackers breaking open the game and rendering the first-person shooter nearly unplayable. The boys and girls at IW have invited members of the mapMonkeys team to spend a week trying to rend the latest Call of Duty apart. Hopefully, this will lead to a more stable and secure experience. Unfortunately, this will also give the cheaters a head start.... [Via Kotaku]

With $1.3 billion I could buy three Internets! This is a perfect excuse to recycle my EA/PopCap ‘shop.
