This is it. The last News Blips before E3. We’ll be going on a much different schedule next week, but I urge you to check back for the best show-floor coverage available.

News Blips:

Paramount Digital Entertainment announces that a new Star Trek game based on the J.J. Abrams reboot will boldly go where a bunch of games have gone before…namely, the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in summer 2012. This journey into space is a co-op action game that puts players in the shoes of James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock. The two heroes are charged with halting the advancement of “a legendary enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy.” The game is being developed by Digital Extremes -- the team who most recently worked on Bioshock 2 and The Darkness 2. God of War veteran Marianna Krawczyk is penning the game’s script. I get all sweaty when I think about the Star Trek reboot. It is easily one of my favorite movies, but Star Trek games don’t usually live up to fans’ expectations. Hopefully, Digital Extremes can pull off a Kobayashi Maru on what has been a somewhat lacking video-game franchise.

Japan’s Nikkei claims that they can confirm that the Nintendo’s Project Café will include a controller with a six-inch touchscreen. To put that in perspective, the Blackberry Playbook’s touchscreen is seven inches diagonally. Nikkei also reaffirmed that the controller would include standard physical buttons in addition to the touchscreen. Please, don’t try to imagine this monstrosity in your head; I’ve been attempting that for the last 30 minutes, and my mind is on the verge of collapse. Project Café should be revealed in detail in a matter of days at E3, where most of the Bitmob team will get their hands on it. We’ll try to explain it to you then.

EA combines EA player accounts, the EA Store, and the EA Download Manager to create a single PC-gaming portal named Origin. Becaus, as a PC gamer, what you really wanted was another store client on your hard drive. Origin is also available on mobile devices. This would make EA the first major publisher to get into the mobile client race with NGMoco and OpenFeint. EA has a plethora of iPhone and Android games that they can leverage to get Origin on as many devices as possible. Still, on the PC, this is going to be a difficult pill to swallow for gamers who are happy with Steam.
