I've taken time away from staring blankly at Mexican soap operas to tell you about news! I don't speak Spanish.
News Blips:
Sony will release digital versions of all NGP games on the same day as their retail counterparts. Remember the PSP Go? It's OK if you don't, but I'm glad that Sony seems to remember it and is learning from its mistakes. That system's major flaw was the lack of day and date support for digital releases, which is kind of important for a machine that can't play physical media. Well, the NGP does have cards, but Sony insists that each game will also be immediately available on the PlayStation Store. Hooray for slowly adapting corporate culture!
EA delays Darkspore to April 27 and announces an open beta. Spore's darker, brooding brother won't be able to whip the emo hair out of its eyes in time to make the original March 29 release date. That means the game will have to gestate another month, but fans can still get their hands on it in the form of an open beta. Said beta will go live in early April and promises to provide plenty of hours with the game's four-player co-op, PvP, and improved character creator.
Minecraft developer Notch is adding wolves to the game's roster of baddies. Don't worry -- it won't all be rabid dogs ripping your pixelated character to shreds. Players can tame the wolves by giving them a bone -- the cute doggies will then fight your battles for you. I'm still looking into whether or not howling at your computer will provide you with an attack bonus.
The devastating Japanese tsunami and earthquakes have forced Sony to delay Motorstorm: Apocalypse. The game was originally scheduled for April 15, but the island nation of Japan has more pressing issues than developing your apocalyptic racing games in a timely manner. There is no new release date, but look at it this way: If the end times come before the game is released, you won't need the game anymore -- you'll be living it.
