Rare Vectrex Console Store Display for Sale

The Vectrex is one amazing console. On sale briefly in the early 1980s, the Vectrex is a totally vector-based system that shipped with its own specially designed monitor. The only thing harder than finding one of these consoles in working condition is finding proof that they were ever on sale.

This is a prototype store display for the Vectrex, complete with screenshots of the system's capabilities. I saw this stand a few days ago when it was hovering around the $200 mark on eBay, but just two bids in, the price is steadily climbing to $400. You can follow the auction here.

If you are unfamiliar with this astounding machine, I've added a few videos after the cut. The Vectrex is my holy grail of all consoles....

I have a Vectrex! Still in great condition (I think), sitting in my mom's apartment in New York. It's just too heavy for her to ship to me, and whenever I see her, I think it's just too much for me to pack up and carry back with me on a plane....

By the way, the best game on it, by far, is the one built into the system: Minestorm. It's like Asteroids, but with magnetic (tracking) and fireball-releasing asteroids.

You're crazy, Dan. The best games on Vectrex were Berzerk, Star Castle, and Armor Attack (and maybe Scramble). Yeah, I've got one of these, too!
