A comedian takes a serious look at the PlayStation Vita

Internet comedian Stuart Ashen doesn't review new and meaningful tech very often. His business is sampling hideous and outdated crap, and I appreciate that. But, on the rare occasions when he looks at a cutting-edge device, I listen because we tend to agree.

Here, Ashen succinctly captures my varied opinions about the PlayStation Vita. I'm not against owning one, as I nearly impulse-bought the wifi model earlier this week, but I do doubt its continued viability. I was an early PlayStation Portable adopter and now own a staggeringly few amount of games for it compared to the 78 Nintendo DS carts littering my apartment.

I would get a Vita. I wouldn't worry about wether it will have any games or not. The darn thing hasn't even been out officially for a full week yet, and it already has more must play games then the 3DS. I've played many of them and I've been having a blast. Uncharted was 8 or so hours of awesomeness. WipeOUT 2048, Escape Plan, Touch my Katamari, Super Stardust Delta, Rayman Origins, Lumines, Dynasty Warriors Next (I know, I know, but I actually enjoyed this one), ModNation Racers: Road Trip (even without multiplayer, it is still a blast), Hot Shots Golf, etc.

The 3DS has Mario, Resident Evil, and a 14 year old Zelda game. I was on the fence as well, and I even let Sony have it a few times while swearing to not buy the thing, but I made the right choice in taking the plunge. Plus the upcoming line-up of titles are just as awesome. Like Unit 13 (played the demo, and its great), Silent Hill: Book of Memories, Little Big Planet, Resistance: Burning Skies, Killzone, Bioshock, Call of Duty, etc.

And according to Sony, they have 3 years worth of steady releases planned at least. Granted this is all banking on the fact that the Vita sells well enough, but I don't think that will be a problem. I don't think it will sell as many units as the original PSP did, but I think it will do well enough.

The dual sticks feel great, just like a console controller. The touch screen is super responsive. The OS feels fast and fluid, and makes multi-tasking simple. Everything just feels right.
