What to Do with a Dead 360

Reasonability isn't always your forte when your Xbox 360 suffers from the rage-inducing red ring of death. You get mad at Microsoft, you fume about how close your console is to being out of warranty, and you detest how long you'd have to wait to get back your system. When the Xbox is finally returned to you, the chance it could cease to function feels higher than ever before. You don't trust it now....

Technabob writer Jasper Stevens didn't want to play the ship-and-wait game with his red-ringed console. He opted to turn it into art [via Technabob]:

Robot man

I might have considered this if my 360 hadn't gone so quietly. I began watching Chef on Netflix before work. When I came home with the intention of finishing that episode, the system flashed its little lights. No warning signs. No terrible sounds.... I felt sorry for my console and sent it away to get proper care.

Mine red-ringed in January. Microsoft sent me a refurbished replacement instead of repairing mine so I don't trust it now. For all I know it had a different problem or other problems. I complained but they didn't seem to care.

Oh no. Not this "are dead systems art?" debate again!

I had one die out of warranty, which was a refurbished replacement that was more than two years old.  That pissed me off.  However, I wound up selling it broken on eBay and made almost $200 bucks selling all the components separately.  I replaced that with an upgrade to an Elite which died this December.  At least the replacement for that was brand new this time, so I am guaranteed another three years.

It is so annoying when they send a refurbished one back if you have a lot of Live Arcade games.  Well if you are like me and have what can be considered a step above some wax cups and string for an internet conections.

Haha, nice. Now I wonder what he did with the power brick.
