Oh dear lord. I have a whole new branch of potentially terrible games I need to check out!"
Anyone remember THUG and THUG 2? They were both catastrophes!"
For kicks, everyone should play Snake's Revenge: the Metal Gear 2 that was never meant to be. It's a really bad game (that has a cult following on GameFAQs), but everyone should play it. After all, it's the primary reason for this amazing game existing in the first place!
Not to pimp my own writing, but I wrote about it here: http://bitmob.com/articles/metal-gear-retrospective-part-3-snakes-revenge-on-the-nes"
You know things are screwed up when, to simply protect gaming's history and heritage, archivists have to fall foul of the law on a daily basis just to make sure that a record of these games exists, and continues to do so. The way PC gaming DRM interacts with your hardware and the OS is so secretive that even in the future when we're on totally different hardware, it may be impossible to emulate these titles (or even run them in a VM) when these shackles are implemented. DRM-free, using only the proper OS APIs, is the best way to ensure that these games will be playable in the future.
Diablo III prevents this since much of the game's content is run from the servers. When Blizzard decides they've had enough of running these services, there will be no simple crack or patch to remove this always-online DRM. The game is lost forever. For a title that is essentially a single player dungeon crawler with a 4 player co-op option, this restriction is completely unnecessary for many of the game's functions, which can be completed with solo play.
This may seem like a wooly issue from a contemporary perspective, but looking into the future, possibly long past our lifetime, this kind of short-sightedness will be looked upon as a tragedy, just as we lament the loss of old movies, books and music, regardless of quality."
What I will say is that he's completely missed the point. I'm not expressing my own personal opinion on these issues, I'm merely saying that resorting to a puerile "entitled" argument really adds nothing to the discourse surrounding our hobby. Calling someone an entitled manchild isn't going to sway them to your opinion, and whilst no one is ever going to agree entirely on anything, the best we can do in this industry is exchange ideas, grievances and solutions so that the industry matures."
I don't necessarily feel it's well founded, since I do genuinely think that, being passionate gamers themselves, most journalists are first and foremost on the side of gamers, but a lot of the community are starting to not believe that, and it's pretty sad."
In fact, the only two systems I think which were worse than the CD-i was the Sega 32x, just for the absurdness of it (the games on it weren't anywhere near as bad, so I hear) and the Atari Jaguar CD, which is the worst piece of crap I've ever seen in my life. I've been looking for an affordable (and working) Jaguar CD attachment for years, but I can't find one that my wallet likes."
Oh, and a correction: Square-Enix is publishing Deus Ex: Human Revolution, not Ubisoft (thank goodness)."
It's not because I cared about my rank (I only play with friends, and for fun, not to be pro), but listening to the other guy rage over the microphone as I cornered him and destroyed his precious win streak was delicious."
If I canceled my subscription, I think I'd definitely miss the auto-downloads and cloud saves, but unless they bring more value to the table PS Plus is almost as worthless as Xbox LIVE is to me.
At this point they should slim up the crappy content and start giving users new and innovative services worth having, or brand new (and good) games every month. The only really good PS Plus feature is the store discounts, which aren't worth it once you factor in the subscription fee."
