I've always had a bad feeling about the death of packaged goods, but the variety of games we can now enjoy digitally has quelled all of my fears.

I recently played through Persona 4 and Pokémon Black, both of which made me feel like a teenager again.

Continuing my Metal Gear retrospective, I play Snake's Revenge, the red headed stepchild of the Metal Gear saga.

I've played the Catherine demo so you don't have to. But you should, because it's amazing. Read on to see why.

In part 2 of my Metal Gear retrospective, I play the rather poor ports of Metal Gear for the NES, C64 and MS-DOS

Whilst there's an Ace Attorney 5-shaped hole in my heart, Capcom have tried to fill it with Ghost Trick. Have they succeeded? Read on to find out!

2010 had a lot of good games, some of them pacifistic. As part of the December Bitmob Writing Challenge, I'm looking back on them.
The DS has a lot of great games that, for whatever reason, weren’t commercial successful in one territory or another, or that publishers simply deemed too risky to bring over in the first place. Here's my five favorite, criminally-under-played games.

"There aren't many systems which, in my view, are worse than the Philips CD-i. I have a CD-i 205 which I found in a car boot sale, and snagged for about £40 (back when players were about £90 on eBay -- so I got a good deal). I haven't played the Zelda games for it yet, but I did get hold of a disc image for Super Mario's Wacky Worlds (it was never commercially released, and all that exists is a prototype), and it's the most god awful piece of crap I've ever played. Really, I'm sure Nintendo were very relieved when Philips decided to can the system, because it was terrible.

In fact, the only two systems I think which were worse than the CD-i was the Sega 32x, just for the absurdness of it (the games on it weren't anywhere near as bad, so I hear) and the Atari Jaguar CD, which is the worst piece of crap I've ever seen in my life. I've been looking for an affordable (and working) Jaguar CD attachment for years, but I can't find one that my wallet likes."

"GameStop are pretty scummy to do this, but they've probably got their ass covered. Only way to punish them is to vote with your wallet.

Oh, and a correction: Square-Enix is publishing Deus Ex: Human Revolution, not Ubisoft (thank goodness)."

"E. Honda here. When I'm playing fair, I play as Cammy or Ken, but playing as Honda in online ranked matches in Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting on XBLA several years ago was a blast.

It's not because I cared about my rank (I only play with friends, and for fun, not to be pro), but listening to the other guy rage over the microphone as I cornered him and destroyed his precious win streak was delicious."

"I'm in a similar boat. Bought PS Plus for Stacking, thinking I'd get a whole bunch of other good games over the year, but most of them have been crap, or games I already bought from PSN anyhow.

If I canceled my subscription, I think I'd definitely miss the auto-downloads and cloud saves, but unless they bring more value to the table PS Plus is almost as worthless as Xbox LIVE is to me.

At this point they should slim up the crappy content and start giving users new and innovative services worth having, or brand new (and good) games every month. The only really good PS Plus feature is the store discounts, which aren't worth it once you factor in the subscription fee."

"Oh, if only. I don't think my metaphorical boat could sail out of Cardiff Bay, let alone reach the Pacific Coast.

But if you want to expand your Britmob operation, you know where to look! :)"

"That's kind of a relief, I guess. I was also wondering if being a Brit hurt my chances, and it seems no more so than anyone else who lives out of SF.

Unless you hate my writing.

You guys don't hate my writing, right? :P

Either way, I got my email off this morning. Best wishes to everyone in the same boat as me! :)"

"I can get behind this. I've only read one edition of GamePro (the one I was published in -- it's hard and expensive to get it over here) and it was a good magazine. I'm certainly more likely to pick it up if it's quarterly; fewer expensive shipping costs will make this worthwhile to me.

I wish them all the best. :)"

"I could rant for a long time about the horrible direction the Mass Effect series is heading, but for the sake of keeping on topic, I'll keep it short.

What was promised to be an acknowledgement of the female Shepard has turned into a vote for the bros about which one they want to stick their penis into the most.

EA have talked about making Mass Effect more "mainstream", and their idea of mainstream is a generic nu metal track in the trailer (blasphemous to what the original Mass Effect was), that stupid-looking omnitool switchblade, giant scripted and incredibly linear battles/missions, and now, it seems, to also objectify 50% of the population.

I don't for a second think this is the Mass Effect series Bioware had wanted it to be back when they released the first one. This is entirely EA's filthy influence, making generic yet another great franchise.

Don't the bros and dudes have enough games? Can't the rest of us play a big budget game (and in this case, be exposed to said game's marketing) which doesn't feel like the bro audience has been unashamedly pandered to?"

"Can go along with everything Dennis has said. Bitmob got me my first piece published in a magazine (GamePro), helped me grow as a writer and gave me the confidence to write my World of Warcraft story which, as those of you who have read it will confirm, was very personal.

I actually don't know what direction I'm heading in right now, but I've definitely learned a lot about this industry at Bitmob, even if I don't want to go further than writing about games as a hobby. And if I do want to go pro, then I've got a lot to learn yet.

I've said this a few times now, but expect to see me making a return very soon. Things have gotten in my way every time I've said this, but I'm hoping I can make an appearance very soon."

"There's a lot that Nintendo does which encourages piracy. Their awful eShop implementation is just one of them. Another big one is their region locking policy, which gives hackers yet another excuse to break into the system and unlock it, and then claim that piracy is just an unfortunate side effect. They don't help the problem by not releasing games in certain regions; it merely creates a hotbed of angry users who are prepared to install homebrew software -- something Nintendo insists is against the law -- in order to play games they've legitimately bought.

What's sad is that I don't think Nintendo is too ignorant to not listen to what we're saying. They just too ignorant to admit that their current stance isn't working for their customers, and that they should take a step back to reevaluate they way they do certain things.

I know every five years people line up to dismiss Nintendo, proclaim doom and so on, so I'm not going to do that. However, their failure to, quite frankly, get with the times will probably be a watershed moment for the company; a time that they've completely and utterly lost the good faith of even their most loyal fans.

That's not to say it will impact their bottom line immediately -- if there are any changes, these things will be gradual rather than an exodus of loyal fans from one platform to another -- but it's not an enviable position to find themselves in. After all, it's those loyal fans that kept the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube afloat, whilst the people who have made every #1 console in history a success -- the Wii included -- are notoriously fickle."
