The beginning of the new year is often a time of reflection. Some think about the mistakes they made and the ways they've grown or try to use their experiences to better themselves in the future. Gamers just love handing out awards to their favorite games.
We have two such lists in this Bitmob Community Spotlight. The first is from Hunter Red -- whose name is way too cool to be real -- and the other from Louie Castro, whose name is far less exciting. They both take similar approaches to their lists but end up with totally different results. Adam Knight -- it's also a pretty cool name, but it's no Hunter Red -- decides to broaden the scope by looking at the best games of the past decade.
Despite what you may think, it's not all list, all the time in this Spotlight. Jacob Hinkle discovers the value of his PSP only years after he buys it, and Derek Lavigne lets Bitmobbers decide which RPG he'll play next.
We wrap things up with Luis Perez, who has a well-thought-out criticism of the gaming press for seeing attacks on our industry where none exist.
The Second Annual Four Star Gaming Awards by Hunter Red I can't say I remember The First Annual Four-Star Gaming Awards, but Hunter does a good job of playing MC for his own awards show. He also gives out one nongaming award in which a runner-up was Taco Bell.
My GOTY List 2009 (Game of the Year for the uninitiated) by Louie Castro Louie hands out honors to games for every system he owns, which ends up being pretty much all of them minus the Xbox 360. At least he gets to keep 50 extra dollars every year.
My Top Ten Games of the Decade by Adam Knight Most of the games on Adam's list come from earlier in the decade, with nothing from 2008 or 2009 making the cut. Still, it's hard to argue with any of his choices, and I love his pick for the top spot.
What is this? Do I actually love my PS? by Jacob Hinkle I'm still trying to get over the fact that Jacob served on the U.S.S. Enterprise. He claims the experience was so boring that he had to get a PSP to pass the time. Are you kidding me? I would have given my left testic...oh. He's talking about the aircraft carrier, not the starship. My bad. He does have an awesome bootleg iPhone, though.
Decide My Gaming Destiny: RPG Edition by Derek Lavigne Derek is letting everyone pick which RPG he'll play next, and he promises to write about the experience on Bitmob. So go tell him which of his choices is your favorite, or be mean and purposely pick the worst of the bunch. I'll probably be doing the latter.
Tony Hawk Game Was Not Blamed for a Murder by Luis Perez I applaud Luis for calling out the gaming press for being too sensitive when it comes to reports of gaming related deaths. In this case, he found a story in which no one was really blaming a Tony Hawk game for the death of an 8-year-old, but plenty of sites went on the defensive anyways.
