One Year Into Atelier Rorona

Over the holiday season, people may look over Atelier Rorona for a variety of reasons. One of those is that it is a Playstation 3 exclusive and another would be due to triple A titles coming out as well. So this is just a run down of the first year of this game. In saying that I may do this after each year to see how I still feel towards this game. So far it is a game that I, JRPG fan playing or even a fan of crafting would enjoy.

Once I picked this game up on the family outing I had to open it right away. So my daughter and I watched the opening cut scenes together with out skipping them. This was an enjoyment with all the vibrant colors on the screen. So once all this is over it is like starting any new game and getting the back story and why your in this situation and what situation you are being thrown into.

Over the past year in the game I have meet a few side characters all that are interesting. I mean really they are interesting bunch. I am glad that the voice acting was cut for the sticker look on the screen. With the back and forth dialog which should be in most games who have bad voice acting.

This game is linear when your traveling through your area's, but honestly that is why it is called a JRPG. So in saying that you know it is bringing you to another screen to battle with the normal back and forth battle style. Once you win you may or may not get any item drops which to me is normal in this type of game.

So the game is revolved about your assignments where you craft items which are about 3 months long or shorter depending on the season of course. One of the great things is once you go out of town to the other areas. You will find items to pick up where you see either blue or gold stars in what ever area you are at. the sad part is you have to pick and choose your items carefully since you can only carry 60 at a time. They need to be carefully picked because some seem to be better than others and with only so much storage makes you limited in some ways.

Now there are somethings that irked me at first till I thought about real life. The first irk was about taking days away from me for travel which lowers my time to turn in assignments. After awhile it made me feel like I was back at work and had to make sure I planned enough to get the job done in time. The next part that irked me was when I could not leave the town with out a friend. Once I got the friend invited I had to pay them to tag along. I am not sure any of my friends would go gather items with me or kill animals for free. Yeah some of you may go hunting, but if a friend asked me to go help gather or kill animals I would ask them for something. Even though it is a monetary amount in the game I will joyfully pay it cause it is worth every penny in my book.

This game for me has been the hidden gem in the rough that will be over looked. It may not live up to some Triple A titles. However I can't seem to put this game down as it has a nice balance for me cause it all revolves around how well you can craft and strategize during your assignments. After completing the first full year this game is making me want to craft them all. Just like pokemon I want to obtain all the books to try out everything to see what this game really has to offer.
