I'm really tired of pixel art. It really isn't that difficult to turn a 2D sprite image into something physical. I do that all the time in cross-stitch. Video game art really needs to move beyond pixel-for-pixel recreations.
These brilliant Punch-Out collages are a great example. None of artist Chris Lange's images follow a pre-determined sprite pattern, but you can totally see which character each collage features.
