E3? What’s that? Can I eat it? Moving right along, let’s see what we’ve got this week. Oh that’s right. Nothing. Just a slightly expanded extra mode of a full retail game and yet another expansion pack for a certain fighting game series renown for adding more and more prefixes and suffixes to its name. Oh and there’s Dynasty Warriors too. Lovely week.

Remember. Release dates are quite literally made at the whims of the publisher.  The following are subject to change without any warning.

Coming This Week

Tuesday June 28, 2011

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 (Xbox 360, PS3)

You gotta hand it to Koei. They can be really persistent with their franchises. It does make you wonder though. Can they turn anything into a Dynasty Warriors franchise? My Little Pony perhaps? Sesame Street? Smurfs? I’m crossing my fingers for a Justin Bieber Dynasty Warriors game where the Biebster has to fight off wave after wave of adolescent girls just to get to the grocery store.

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (Xbox 360, PS3)

Do you feel like you need the definitive version of Street Fighter 4? Well apparently, the last Street Fighter 4, Super Street Fighter 4 just doesn’t seem to satisfy Capcom’s idea of “definitive” because they’re releasing yet another Street Fighter 4 with more suffixes. This time, we’re getting 4 new characters. Yun, Yang, and Evil Ryu, apparently, have shown up before while Oni makes his (its?) debut appearance here. Along with some balancing updates, one has to wonder just how many more of these “definitive” versions we’ll be getting? Street Fighter 2 topped out at 5.

UFC Personal Trainer: The Ultimate Fitness System (Xbox 360 Kinect, PS3 Move, Wii)

So you want to fight in the UFC octagon right? Well, if you pretend exercise the same routines that UFC fighters use, maybe somewhere down the line, you’ll get to do just that. Boasting 70 exercises (Approved by the MMA and NASM!) and 51 routines, UFC Personal Trainer may just get you that dream match up with (insert current UFC fighter favorite here)! Best of luck to you.

Mystery Case Files: The Malgrave Incident (Wii)

And the hidden object games just keep on piling up. What’s it all for this time you may be asking? Dust! Magical, pink dust with curative powers. Looks like the His Dark Materials trilogy has finally started to gain some traction. It only took 15 years to do it.

Reel Fishing Paradise 3D (3DS)

In all this talk of 3D, the poor fishing genre consistently gets left out of the conversation. Worry no more fishing fans. You will soon be able to fish in full stereoscopic 3D. You’ll be able to mix and match rods, reels, lines, lures, and baits to match wits with those wily fish that you know is making faces at you everytime you pass by. Wipe those silly faces off their faces with your kick ass fishing skills.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (3DS)

Admittedly, I liked the Mercenaries modes in the Resident Evil 4 and 5, but a full game around it? No thanks. This score attack mode has you going around the map killing enemies and chaining combos for higher and higher score. It does sport a leveling system where you get to equip passive abilities and the ability to customize your weapons loadout, neither of which was on the console versions. But really? A full retail release for a side mode?

Jewels of the Ages (DS)

What’s better than a match 3 puzzle game? Two match 3 puzzle games, baby! Jewel of the Ages comes jam packed with the match 3 game of Jewels of Olympus and Jewels of Ancient Pharoah’s. The difference? If you count swapping statue heads as different from swapping mummy heads, than that’s your difference. Otherwise, nothing.

Late to the Party

I just figured something out. I’m pretty sure this week marks the beginning of the Summer lull, that period of time between the last notable game and the September, October, and November rush of games. I hope you guys have a good two months worth of backlog to play through.

Apparently the producer of SSF4 said through twitter that he is in talks to get a "AE2K12" update. I don't know if that means another update or a patch to fix balance issues with Yun and Yang that people have been vocal about, but the train might not be over yet.
