On the bright side, at least it isn’t December. Seriously, last December had absolutely nothing coming out, and I mean nothing. As in 0 titles came out last December. Not that that makes the fact that only two titles coming out this week any better, but hell, at least it’s better than nothing. Besides, we’re getting the much-ballyhooed erotic puzzler straight out of Japan this week. What more could you want?

Remember. Release dates are quite literally made at the whims of the publisher.  The following are subject to change without any warning.

Honorable Mention

Two hot ass women wants to sleep with me. Boo hoo!

Catherine (Xbox 360, PS3)

Tuesday July, 26 2011
What, pray tell, does one exactly say to describe this new beast that is Catherine. Made by the same developers who made the Shin Megami Tensei Persona series, you would think Catherine is another Japanese Role Playing Game in the same vein as the Persona series. Then, they showed us some gameplay videos, and we just got more confused.

As it turns out Catherine puts you in the shoes of Vincent who’s having a major relationship dilemma. Namely, does he stay with his current girlfriend, Katherine, or go with the hot as hell blonde chick, Catherine, whom he just met and had a one-night stand with. If you’re waiting me to get to the part where he has to fight a bunch of demons hell-bent on devouring the souls of all mankind, you’ll be waiting for a while. This relationship dilemma plays front and center as the game’s primary plotline. The game offers up some choices for Vincent to make, and depending on your choices, Vincent will have to choose between the two women. If you must have some kind of fantastical element to this rather mundane conflict, Vincent’s dreams do get a little... wacky.

At night, Vincent’s dreams put him in some strange reality along with other men also in the midst of a relationship dilemma, and for some god-forsaken reason, everyone looks like a sheep. Here, Vincent must stay alive by climbing a wall of movable boxes to reach the top. Some of these levels even have a giant... something or other chasing him from the bottom up. Failing to do so

And that’s really all there is to Catherine. A plotline straight out of a romance movie conjoined with a truly surreal puzzle game. Given Catherine’s highly unorthodox take on a video game plotline, lack of any firearms usage, point of origin, and just generally, whacked out premise, Catherine can’t possibly be on many people’s radars, all of which is exactly the reason why this game is on my radar.

Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions (3DS)

Can’t get enough Pac-Man or Galaga? How about a compilation of the two gaming icons in one 3DS cartridge? Dimensions include the original Pac-Man and Galaga from Atari. If that’s too old for your taste, it also comes with the sublime Pac-Mand Championship edition and Galaga Legions, both of which were originally on Xbox Live Arcade? Then there’s the actual new content including a side scrolling version of Pac-Man where you have to tilt the 3DS, and how about the on-rails shooter version of Galaga where you can move your 3DS around you looking for enemies, Face Raiders style. Yea, I’ll stick with old stuff.

Deus Ex may be next month, but hopefully Catherine will help me forget that little painful fact until then.
