Deadliest Warrior: The Game. The best 10 bucks spent this summer?

This year at E3 I got the opportunity to go behind closed doors with the development team of Deadliest Warrior: The Game. This title is a 2 player 3D fighting game available a downloadable software beginning this July 14th, on Xbox Live Arcade (and on PlayStation 3 shortly after). It’s only 10 bucks and from the hands on time that I had with it at E3, it’s going to be worth it.

Welcome to the Deadliest Warrior.

The developers at Spike TV Games worked very closely with the team behind the television show, to bring you the goods in as accurate a way as possible. You’ll get to play as several of the warriors from Season 1 and one yet to be announced fighter from Season 2. In my hands on time with the almost finished build, the graphics were already impressive, the animation was nice, and the cool factor was definitely there.

Knight vs. Ninja

This title has online tournaments, customizable warriors, unlockable weapons, a ranking system, arcade, and versus mode. The way  the game feels to me is SoulCalibur meets Mortal Kombat and you can see why in the trailer below.  Here's hoping that the final release is a fun one.

The Deadliest Warrior is one of the few shows I will seek out to watch (as long as the are not doing modern soldiers.) Any game they make has got to be better than the iPhone game they came out with!

Are the hosts in the game? Did you play it at all?

Lance, I don't believe that the hosts of the show are in the game at all, but the developers have recreated the training grounds from the show and it's pretty cool to fight in it.  As for playing it, oh yeah!  :)  Pretty much throughout our whole session, I was playing vs. mode against all three designers.  It controlled pretty well, I thought the graphics were nice for a downloadable title, and more than a few times I went, "oh!" from a cool decapitation, limb-be-gone, or some other cool act of violence.  :)  Also...this isn't to brag or anything, but I won every single fight, no matter who I picked or who they picked.  A couple of rounds here and there went to them, but I never lost a "fight".  Hehe, what can I say?  I love my fighters.

I remember hearing a producer of this show say that he got the idea from Mortal Kombat, so how fitting this game is now being made into a fighter!

Does each fighter have a set of predetermined moves? Or are the moves dependent on the weapon?
