E3 Predictions

The biggest gaming event of the year is slowly coming upon us. I know its a little premature to be making predictions about what any of the Big Three are going to unveil considering we've still got a good two weeks before it even happens. What can I say other than genuine enthusiasm about what this year's E3 will bring us? Of course there are already some givens most of us expect to be there so I'll merely touch base with those and discuss more about potential titles that could make an appearance or that I'm hoping will be there. Mind you most of this information will probably bring out the 'duhs' from the back of your brain so bare with me please ladies and gents.

PlayStation Move: We've already seen what this thing can do at GDC with games like SOCOM 4 showing off how much more accurate the Move is in comparison to the Wiimote but are we going to see more full-fledged games? SOCOM 4 is an optional affair with the Move and the only games I've seen regarding the Move have been more of the Wii party games the console is so riddled with nowadays. I'm hoping to see some games that will truly display how Move could potentially win over the hardcore Wii audience. Perhaps a new rhythm game in the style of Rez or a hack and slash first person game a la Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirror only much more responsive and fun.

PSP2: After the failure of the PSP GO, it would surprise me if Sony continued to emphasize it at this years conference. A more likely, and better, scenario would be showing off the newest iteration of the PSP and not just another model. Following in the footsteps of the Nintendo 3DS unveil, Sony is going to need some heavy firepower to push PSP in the right direction if the 3DS is as good as it sounds so why not a better version of the PSP? It's also been rumored to death  and we all know how well Sony responds to those.

Final Fantasy XIV: We saw a trailer for this at last year's E3 with very little to no gameplay being displayed. Right now the game is currently in the Alpha stage of testing so I wouldn't be surprised if at the Sony Press Conference they show another trailer and a possible release date for the Beta or even the actual release date for the full release.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII: Square-Enix has already said the chances of this game even being shown in trailer form at E3 is slim to none but when has that ever meant anything in regards to E3? An extremely pleasant surprise would be some gameplay footage finally being displayed instead of the usual trailer affair we get. I won't be holding my breath for this one quite yet.

Infamous 2: It's only been a year since the last Infamous and they already registered a domain name for the sequel so it's certainly possible this could show up in trailer form. Any gameplay footage is a little premature at this point. I would even go as far as saying trailer footage is early as well considering how soon it'll be since the first game was released. I do expect some kind of announcement from Sucker Punch or Sony about it though.

Killzone 3: I was at first pretty sure they would unveil this at E3, however, as of this writing Killzone 3 has been officially shown throughout the Internet via Gamepro pics and various other previews from other gaming sites. I expect a trailer and gameplay at the Sony Press Conference as it is one of the big first party titles Sony will be pressing to show off.

The Last Guardian: Lord knows we have been waiting for a long time to get our hands on The Last Guardian. Ever since it was first shown no one really knows what the game is about or even how it plays. I suspect some kind of gameplay or even a demo will be at E3, however, I wouldn't doubt if another trailer was just shown instead.

Gran Turismo 5: I shouldn't even bother putting this as a prediction. It's been at E3 more times than any game I can possibly think of! A release date sounds completely plausible but considering the track record of GT 5, (no pun intended), I would just assume another trailer or demo will be shown instead of getting our hopes up.

Resistance 3: No Ratchet title is planned this year to my knowledge and Resistance 3 sort of got confirmed via a billboard ad for a movie. Whether or not that ad was real is still up for debate, but it is definitely not unlikely we will see more of this title at E3. If they don't make a sequel I'll probably cry for bloody murder after that terrible cliffhanger of an ending.

I'm expecting way, way too much Natal and PS Move stuff.

@shoe, and games that should not even see the light of day!

@Shoe: I agree actually. I bet Microsoft will show way more content for Natal than Sony will for PS Move honestly.

I obviously couldn't tell you anything as it pertains to what or to what capacity, but there's way too much late-night activity going on next door at Retro Studios for them not have something they are working on not at E3.
