We recently attended a demo for the Wii-exclusive action game Army of Two and a Half, due out this fall. Looking to capitalize on the Wii's expanded base, developer EA Montreal has crafted a more family-friendly tale for the Army of Two franchise. Mercenaries Elliot and Tyson, infiltrating a bioterrorist organization holed up in the frozen wilderness of Siberia, find a cranky surprise abandoned in a storage closet. And so the adorable Carter enters their lives. But there's just one problem: baby wants Björn -- and Björn doesn't come cheap. So Elliot and Tyson find themselves back in the game, running and gunning from the streets of Shanghai to the back alleys of Baghdad in search of gold, glory, and that elusive organic formula that Carter loves. Mixing up the action are a number of minigames. For example, you may have to find cover to change Carter's diaper, or dodge bullets to retrieve the stuffed bear he's decided to throw across the battlefield. And look for plenty of motion-sensitive moves, too -- such as using the Wii Remote to toss Carter between characters with a flick of the wrist.
Preliminary Verdict: As hardcore gamers, we're ambivalent about EA's more casual approach to the Wii -- first All-Play, now this? But if the gameplay delivers, you can bet we'll sign up for another round of bro-tacular mercenary action.
