Congratulations to the Boston Bruins for winning the Stanley Cup. Also, congratulations to Vancouver for rioting and proving that Canada is just as crazy as the rest of the world.
News Blips:
Bioware plans to show off a Mass Effect 3 trailer starring female Shepard. From what I understand, a huge portion of people played as lady Shepard while defending intelligent life from extragalactical invaders. It doesn’t make sense to me, since I made the right choice and played as dude Shep. However, for those of you who were whining that the supposedly more beloved Ms. Shepard doesn’t get enough marketing exposure, the good news is that Bioware has heard you. The developer’s marketing director, David Silverman, tweeted: “There will be a #FemShep trailer. We actually had a meeting on her yesterday. We are working on the look now.”
Treyarch unveils the third piece of Black Ops DLC, the Annihilation map pack. What is that dead look in your eye? Oh, you’re tired of reading about Call of Duty: Black Ops? Well, too bad! More DLC is on the way. As has become routine, this new add-on will include four multiplayer maps and a new Zombies stage -- all for the moderately high price of $15. This time, players will get to shoot fools at Area 51 and a drive-in movie. They probably avoided a lot of work by fogging up the car windows at the drive-in instead of rendering their interiors...get it? 'Cause people are doing it.
Nintendo releases the Game Boy version of Donkey Kong for the Nintendo 3DS’s eShop. Donkey Kong ’94 -- as we call on the streets -- is a puzzle-platforming game that requires Mario to chase down Donkey Kong over 100 levels. At the time, the title was a bit of a bait and switch -- the game starts out with the original Donkey Kong levels before opening up into an entirely new game. Donkey Kong is available now for $3.99.
Bobby Kotick was asked to play a penny-pinching executive in Brad Pitt’s new baseball movie Moneyball. The Activision CEO plays an Oakland Athletics bigwig who tells Pitt’s character that they won’t get any more money to buy better players. (I don’t know what the problem is; Brangelina have pretty much adopted an entire baseball-roster’s worth of kids.) It isn’t really clear how Kotick came to be involved, but Activision claims that he was asked to participate. Hopefully, Brad's handsomeness will be more resilient to Kotick than the Guitar Hero series.
