Even though this is to promote a video game, the idea of buying T-shirts to determine if a man will live or not -- in the name of charity, for that matter -- is quite morbid.

News Blips:

Help determine the fate of Gears of War 3's Carmine by donating to charity. Although the last two Gears of War games killed off a descendent of the fictional Carmine family, part three might not follow suit. Developer Epic is hosting a fundraiser for the Child's Play Charity in which fans can buy T-shirts -- either in favor of or against Carmine's demise -- for their Xbox avatars (or real T-shirts at this weekend's San Diego Comic Con). Proceeds go to the charity. Let me take this time to scold the people who will inevitably auction off their real shirts as collectors' items for personal gain: Shame on you. Shame.

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock set to feature a 20-minute song from the band Rush. The Canadian rockers plan to lend the title track from their 2112 album to the game and provide narration for the transitions in the song. Man, I used to think that failing at the end of a 5-minute song was grueling -- failing in the 19th minute of this track would just be torture.

Sony Online Entertainment reveals that Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy are set to voice Joker and Batman (respectively) for DC Universe Online. The duo first lent their vocal talents to the characters in Batman: The Animated Series. Back in May I reported that Hamill intended to retire from his role as the Joker after the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum. Based on release dates, his statement is still true...I just feel a bit deceived. [GamePro]

Developer Rockstar targets multiplayer cheaters with Red Dead Redemption update. The company plans to release a patch within the next month that's intended to counter hacking and cheating in the game's online mode. Rockstar also plans to drop the ban hammer on anyone who they detect is "cheating beyond a shadow of a doubt." I guess the anything-goes Wild West world of Red Dead Redemption isn't so lawless after all. [Rockstar]
