We wonder why the Japanese always get chosen to make cool animated movies. What, are we Americans incapable of producing stuff like this? OK, maybe we are...

News Blips:

• Japan shows love for Halo via beautiful animation and possible Gravemind tentacle rape. Microsoft announced today that Halo will be getting a compilation of six anime shorts from various Japanese animation studios in one package entitled Halo Legends. We have one request: Make Master Chief dance. [Shacknews]

• Saw director wants to whip Castlevania flick good. The live-action Castlevania movie can't be killed (coincidence?) -- Saw director and co-writer James Wan is now officially on board to co-write and direct the film based on Konami's classic vampire-hunting series. We really hope Wan asks the burning question: What is a man? [1UP]

• Band Hero turns your DS into a makeshift annoy machine. Activison Blizzard announced, yes, another Guitar Hero sequel today, this one for the DS. Band Hero, however, lets you not only play the guitar (via the guitar doohickey that plugs into the GBA port), but also the drums (via four pads that attach to the d-pad and face buttons). Sadly, the triangle attachment is apparently being saved for the sequel. [Joystiq]

• There's plants fighting zombies on my 360. The delectably brain-teasing tower defense game Plants vs. Zombies will be shambling onto Xbox Live Arcade sometime soon. Let's celebrate with a song. [WorthPlaying]

For some reason that I cannot explain I actually think James Wan is the perfect man for the job. I cannot give any logical reasons, it just seems to make sense.

Well, Halo Legends is being done by Toei Animation, so it's got a good pedigree. After seeing the trailer for it, there is similarities to Robotech: Shadow Chronicles.

See I thought you were going to also put in Castle Crashers going to PSN later this year.

James Wan is totally wrong for Castlevania, but probably better that Paul W.S. Anderson. I just wish Konami would go with some real talent instead of a guy who has directed one film that was passable. Death Sentence was horrible, btw.

Although probably not as Justin Marks as writer for Shadow of the Colossus. Anyone else see that Street Fighter:Chun Li movie? That scene with young M. Bison his pregnant girlfriend. WTF!?

People always retort about which actors or directors are best suited for certain video game characters.

My question is: Why do all video games have to turn into movies?

The fans don't enjoy any of the revenue, and instead, are often left with a sour taste in their mouths. So why do so many gamers demand to see "Charlize Theron play Joanna Dark" or "Michael Bay direct an Uncharted movie"?

I say, let video games stay video games. Adapting them into films admits that the story isn't legitimate until it's on the big screen. Why the hell does World of Warcraft, a game whose story few people pay attention to, deserve to be adapted into a feature film? Why? I never played WoW because I was interested in the quest lines. So why would I want to see a movie based on the poorly penned game?

Jeez.

I have no problems with games turning into movies. The original Mortal Kombat movie blew my wee little mind when I was kid -- so much so, that I saw it TWICE in one day (no joke!). And The Super Mario flick was...okay, yeah, that was terrible, but did it hurt the franchise in anyway? Hell no. Totally harmless. I'm actually super stoked for the Castlevania flick now! Crank up "Vampire Killer!"

@Omar - I still blame George Lucas. I find you can blame him for most problems in society and culture...
