A lot of you may not know this, but I consider myself something of a futurist. For those who don't know, a "futurist" is a person who spends way too much time thinking about laser beams and teleportation devices because he is inadequate in his present life.

News Blips: PA's The Lookouts board gameNews Blips:

Penny Arcade is getting involved in the creation of a new game...oh wait, it's a board game. Remember when that Penny Arcade title came out on Xbox Live Arcade? That seemed to assure us video-game nerds that Gabe and Tycho were on our side in the war against those board-game heathens. Well, that alliance is over like a friendship after a night of Risk. The PA guys have announced a partnership with Cryptozoic Entertainment to produce a tabletop property based on their beloved miniseries The Lookouts. I guess I can live with this, considering that The Lookouts is the coolest thing on the Internet -- I say that with pure journalistic objectivity.

Nintendo probably won't be using 3D for the successor to the Wii -- the company really hates those glasses. Does anyone else get the feeling that Satoru Iwata was called "four eyes," like, a million times as a kid? Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's president, came at CNN with the company line that glasses make people feel like a loser. Any hypothetical Wii 2 will probably focus on some other type of technology for its wow factor. If Iwata wears 3D glasses in addition to his spectacles, would that make him "six eyes"?

Konami makes famed game designer Hideo Kojima their vice president -- Kojima, presumably, will focus on making Konami more of that Metal Gear money. To be clear, I'm not confirming the existence of a new Solid Snake adventure, but c'mon -- they probably though about naming his new position the Vice President of Making Just One More Metal Gear. Now that he has the word "president" in his title, I wonder if he'll go around like President Johnson in MGS2: Sons of Liberty, grabbing the genitals of every androgynous-looking person he meets.

Sony's music label has a problem with Amazon's cloud-streaming service, and the legal results could have far-reaching ramifications. We've been hearing for months about how Google and Apple have been preparing their cloud-based media lockers. Amazon Cloud is an ever-accesible server for storing users' digital content; users can then stream that content to any of their devices . The reason Google and Apple have held off is that copyright holders want a cut of the action. Amazon decided that Sony and others didn't have any right to tell people how they can use media once it's been purchased, but the Japanese conglomerate disagrees. What does this have to do with games? Imagine purchasing a game on Steam and then putting it in a third-party locker that allows you to stream it to any of your devices. If Sony gets their way, that will either cost more or be disallowed altogether. I'll have more to say on this as it develops.

There's actually already a Penny Arcade card game. I'd pick it up if it wasn't 2-player only.... http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=88
