Watching others play video games in real life is so yesteryear -- now it's all about watching other people play in virtual space!

News Blips:

Sony and independent game "label" Codename team up to bring indie games to the PlayStation Home's virtual world. Already on board are developers The Odd Gentlemen (The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom) with their game Dueling Gentlemen, The Peanut Gallery with IndieCade 2009 hit Minor Battle, and Lazy8 with the puzzler Cogs. Players can both play and watch others play the games in the Home plaza. This works out games like Minor Battle, which requires four outward facing televisions in a square shape to play. I'll always be a fan of reality, but this makes gaming in virtual space seem pretty damn cool. [Gamasutra]

Netflix plans to expand their streaming service to Canada this fall. Though the company did not specify whether game consoles up north would support streaming movies and TV shows, like we can in the U.S. on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say its fairly likely. The downside is the service launches in English, with French to come later. What's that all aboot? [Netflix]

Investment bank Cowan & Company attributes fledging sales of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 to the golfer's sex scandal. In a note to investors, Doug Cruetz of Cowan & Company commented on the series' 68 percent decrease in sales (86 percent for the Wii version) compared to last year's installment. Though he noted that EA bundled the Wii version with the Wii MotionPlus accessory, Cruetz feels that the "Woods' scandal...may have permanently damaged the sales potential" of the games. Forecasters, however, may not be taking into account that golf gamers may be turning to Tiger Woods PGA Online, which is free to play. I think EA should just add a dating-sim/"hot coffee" mode to PGA Tour 12 to expand the game's market...if you know what I mean. Comic fans interested in checking out DC Universe Online can register for the PS3 and PC betas beginning today. The only prerequisite is a Station ID, which you can sign up for free of cost. Anyone playing this know if DCUO offers player-versus-player combat? I could always use more evidence to back up my "Superman would totally mop the floor with Batman" theory.
