Rage and Crysis 2 might not be coming out until 2011, but you'll be playing them in no time. Well, now that I think about it, they're actually quite ways off.

News Blips:

Release dates! Get your release dates! Id Software's creative director, Tim Willits, announced that Rage should come out on September 13, 2011, while developer Crytek revealed in a Twitter message that Crysis is scheduled to drop on March 22, 2011. Is it me or does releasing games in 2010 seem like such a thing of the past?

Id Software has no intention to license its id Tech 5 engine to third-party developers and publishers. Todd Hollenshead, software boss over at id, told Eurogamer at QuakeCon 2010 that "this is a competitive advantage and we want to keep it within games we publish -- not necessarily exclusively to id or id titles, but if you're going to make a game with id Tech 5, then it needs to be published by Bethesda, which I think is a fair thing." (Note Zenimax Media owns both Bethesda and id.) You hear that? They got a reputation to maintain with this engine, and they don't want you goofing it up with your Farmville knockoff, or whatever.

Realtime Worlds Studios confirms staff layoffs. The studio, which developed Crackdown and APB, released a statement today revealing that an unspecified number of employees in the "art, audio, coding, design, production, and QA departments have regrettably been made redundant." It is common -- as noted in the statement -- for studios to reorganize their staff after they release titles. Regardless, our best wishes go out to those affected by these layoffs. [1UP]

We'd like to wish a big happy birthday to Nintendo composer and sound director Koji Kondo who turns 50 today! Kondo is most famous for his musical contributions to the Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda series. Why not celebrate like me and kick back to some of his tunes? Sure, people might think you're weird if they hear you, but that's what headphones are for.
