Kids, I’ve got some hot news for ya. Also: I’ll probably be playing Trenched all weekend. Get at me on Xbox Live. My gamertag is on my Bitmob profile.

News Blips:

Valve co-founder Gabe Newell expresses interest in Nintendo’s new Wii U system. When the developer of Half-Life and the purveyor of all things PC gaming speaks, people tend to listen. Talking with Joystiq, Newell said that the “Wii U seems to be a lot more powerful than the previous generation” and that “it’s a lot easier to look at the Wii U and have it fit within [our] framework.” You know what this means: Half-Life 3 exclusive to the Wii U…or maybe not.

Super Smash Bros. director tells Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu that a new game in the series is still “several years” away. Well…poop. Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of Nintendo’s epileptic fighting game, says that his team is “devoting all manpower to working on [Kid Icarus: Uprising].” That is a likely story, but my guess is that it's just going to take a few years to remove tripping from the gameplay. According to a study conducted by Iowa State University's Media Research Lab, parents want a universal ratings system for video games. The study also discovered that parents don’t like the age restrictions suggested by the current ESRB because different families have different standards for what is appropriate for their children. A proposed solution would include more descriptive warnings that explicitly state a game’s content. I'd prefer this if only to see them try to explain Duke Nukem Forever within the confines of the precious few square inches that make up the cover of a video game case.

It’s time to half-tuck your shirt, because the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta starts on June 28. The beta is open to anyone with a PlayStation Plus account, which includes you if you owned a PS3 during the great PSN outage of 2011. Of course, if you just picked up your PS3, you can still get a voucher -- which will grant you access -- with a purchase of inFamous 2

I finished Trenched, but I can't stop playing it. Saturday night, I'll find you online.
