HAMMERSUIT PARTNERS WITH BITMOB, REBEL FM, AND THE GEEKBOX
Games Industry Consulting Firm Brings Seasoned Expertise to Three of the Most Creative Independent Video Game Podcasts

Paramus, NJ (May 27, 2009) - Hammersuit LLC, an independent business consultancy in the video games industry, today announced an extensive partnership with popular gaming podcasts Rebel FM, The Geekbox, and Bitmob's Mobcast. The three shows, when combined with existing Hammersuit-affiliated podcasts from Destructoid and GoNintendo, are downloaded over 100,000 times each week, making Hammersuit's podcast network one of the industry's largest.

"I anticipate good things from Hammersuit," says Ryan Scott, Geekbox Founder and Host. "They're quality people, they have a solid track history so far, and -- most importantly -- they're named after the most awesome power-up in all of Super Mario Bros. 3. I'm confident that this relationship will take the Geekbox to great places."

"We're very much looking forward to working with Hammersuit," says Dan Hsu, Co-Founder of BitMob. "Their expertise in the industry will allow us to better focus on our podcast -- they can take care of the business and money stuff, and we can worry about making Mobcast as good as it can be. Plus, Hammersuit's got a damn cool name."

Hammersuit will provide all three companies with ad sales, sponsorship opportunities and other business development services while allowing the independent websites to focus on their acclaimed shows.

"The toughest part of creating compelling destinations is connecting with your audience, and we love the fact that these shows have done that from day one," says Jill Keil, CEO of Hammersuit. "Dan Hsu, Ryan Scott, Arthur Gies, Anthony Gallegos and the rest of the crews from these shows are very well known members of the community, and we're honored to have them on board."

This is great news. I would love to see some work of Arthur's on the site. Will A Life Well Wasted be featured on the podcast page as well? Shoe, Demian, Greg, or Michael probably won't say this, so I will: THIS NEWS MEANS THAT THE BITMOB-REBELFM-GEEKBOX COALITION RULES THE VIDEO GAME PODCAST WORLD! And I for one could not be happier :)

So much for the prophesied videogame podcast wars of 2011. Or is it?

This is a strange predicament. I always considered 1up a place where personalities and editorials met, where readers and listeners latched onto certain people's perspectives or arguments and often times watched fireworks or debate ensue over who or what was right. With 1up pretty much imploding back in January, most of these personalities were scattered to the wind, some staying in San Fran, some leaving for LA, and some finding work at other networks. I see BitMob as a strange chimera of what used to be EGM/1up. Actually, I'll take that back, I see Bitmob as an extension of the former EGM/1up, and in essence direct competition to 1up. It's like the war of the Roses or something, basically the same people, prying for the same audience, split between two factions. Is it as dramatic as that? No, not at all. If anything, everybody is on good terms with each other and hopes the best for each "opposing" side, but I just find it strange that the personalities that worked along side each other for the last decade, are now split into two factions and working independently. Oh well, Bitmob seems to be off to a slow start, but I still see it as the successor to EGM. Bitmob=EGM 2.0 ftw Hmm, maybe I should write an article about this?

@ Nick - I would love to see an article about your comment, but I don't agree that BITMOB is off to a slow start. BITMOBBERS are a curious breed, but they are worth 10 times their weight when compared to the normal videogame website user. And I like the War of the Roses comparison, but I will read Jeremy, Sharkey, Ray, Scooter, and Matt's stuff no matter where they are. I really think what separated EGM/1up from everyone else was the quality of the writing, not the brand.
Bitmob=EGM 2.0 ftw
But I agree with this

Fantastic, I've been getting 'Rebel FM' and 'The Geek Box' from iTunes to make things easy. And I've been getting the latest Mobcast right here. I think I'll just get all three @BITMOB from now on.

@Lance-I made the "slow start" remark judging by the number of comments that have been submitted to most of the articles. Is that a way to judge page count? Probably not. Do I know what I'm talking about in terms of page traffic? That would also be a no, but the website is still in alpha, so I am curious where it will go to in the future. "BITMOBBERS" may be a curious breed (and an easily marketable one in terms of advertising), but the integrity of the site depends on it's user base (which appears small) and that base's willingness to produce content. But I'll give Bitmob credit, they're doing something that I've never heard of before; giving users an legitimate voice. It's like the tagline should be "Bitmob: a soapbox for the masses!"
