TerrariaThe Community Spotlight highlights some of the best articles that didn't quite make the front page. This week, we've got a look at the newest mining craze, a discussion on the use of current events in game narratives, praise for the Player 2s of the world, and more spacefaring action in Eve Online. Put down your resource-gathering implement of choice and join us, won't you?

From Minecraft to Terraria
By Marcel Hoang
"Minecraft is a mining game with RPG elements," Marcel writes. "Terraria is an RPG with mining elements." Hm, color me intrigued. Minecraft is an amazing experience and a powerful creative tool, but it does force the player to provide his own objectives and motivation. With more enemies to fight (and more reward for doing so), Terraria offers an interesting side-scrolling alternative.

Virgin Gaming dropped the ball for competitive Killzone
By Alex Mendez
I've never tried Virgin Gaming, a free service that hosts gaming competitions for cash and prizes. If Alex's account of his experience is any indication, I'm not interested. Then again, I'm really bad at shooters...if, as Alex says, the service is so broken that a Killzone 3 player with 75% more losses than wins can grab $800, maybe Virgin Gaming is my destiny.

Ban It! A look at why games may not involve contemporary conflicts
By Jonas Jurgens
Jonas examines the fate of certain titles that have tried to tackle real-world issues, like Medal of Honor, Call of Juarez: The Cartel, or the still-in-limbo Six Days in Fallujah. The armed forces and governmental bodies have reacted less than favorably to these games, but Jonas sees them as a sign that the industry is continuing to push its boundaries as an art form.

The Eve virgin: Holy economy, Batman!
By Josh Derocher
Nothing makes me more bored in World of Warcraft than farming materials for crafting. But in Eve Online, you'll never get anywhere unless you know how to mine. "Mining is where the party is at," Josh writes. "All alone in space...it’s just so much fun." I'll take your word for it, dude. I do find the Eve economy fascinating, though.

Player 2 press start: A tribute to the unsung heroes
By Winson Shuen
Luigi is my homeboy. In the original Super Mario Bros., I would start a two-player game and deliberately kill Mario so I could proceed in peace as Luigi. Winson digs where I'm coming from. "I'm more captivated by these unsung heroes in almost everything I play, watch, and read," he writes. To the Jimmy Lees and Lance Beans of the world: We salute you.
