This is a fairly slow week, but we get to celebrate Tony Hawk's birthday and the North American Sega Saturn launch.


May 10

1999: The Pokémon franchise arrives in Brazil.

2005: Nintendo announces their partnership with IGN that allows them to use GameSpy technology in the DS's online networking functions.


May 11

1995: Sega reveals that they're launching the Saturn early and only at select retailers. While they did get the console out before Sony's PlayStation, alienating distributors and rushing publishers had a negative impact on the Saturn's reputation and quality.

 

May 12

1968: Anthony Frank Hawk is born. You know him best as Tony Hawk, professional skateboarder and the name attached to a once-amazing game series.


May 13

1976: Atari releases the Breakout arcade cabinet.

2003: Sony introduces the PlayStation Portable at E3.
