What the Hell: Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny's Gauntlet Mode

The Soulcalibur games aren't known for their adherence to logic. These are games that have featured Link, Spawn, Yoda, and Darth Vader duking it out against dudes dressed in bondage gear and girls burdened with breasts so huge they'd make Tomonobu Itagaki blush.

In Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, the recently released PSP entry in the franchise, the "Sure, why the hell not?" character is Kratos from God of War. But even the disconnect of pitting Kratos against Soulcalibur mainstays like Voldo and Ivy couldn't prepare me for the game's Gauntlet mode, a batshit insane fusion of an RPG and a minigame collection.

How insane? Check out the introduction to Kratos's quest in Gauntlet mode:

Please tell me this quest mode is kratos trying to kill all those animals. I'm a fan of twisted humor and that would just be such a nice 'WTF it's just a game, let's go nuts' move from the game makers that I would have to cheer. Also would be a fairly hilarious parody of Krato's 'murdering badass' image to have him attacking the cast of bambi.

Well, after these screens Kratos had to fight a dude with the body of a man and the head of the wolf, so I'm guessing that yes, Kratos wants to murder the cuddly little animals.

That guy'll do anything to get revenge on the gods!

I still want to know why Namco releases better versions of their fighting game franchises on the PSP? First Tekken 5:DR and now Soul Calibur.

I love how the wolf is "wild beast" and the other animals are the more cleverly named "wilds beasts."

Only a Japanese company could do something like this. I think I need to buy this game despite having put several hundred hours in to SC4. Wonder if my dust riddled psp still works.
